  1. "The Old Kit Bag" is now available on EMusic for anyone interested. I just downloaded it tonight. Can't wait to give it a "spin".
  2. Alert! - Richard Thompson's "The Old Kit Bag" is now available - the WHOLE album! +++ I'm VERY impressed with the new MP3's. A huge improvement for the Fantasy stuff, especially. The files are about 50% larger, but well worth it. The downside is re-downloading everything.
  3. According to The Website, it's due out on June 10th. You can download the new single for a buck fifty, too. I think I'll wait...
  4. The liner notes say that the interviews were made for "Danmarks Radio". The interview was recorded in Dexter's back yark in the Copenhagen suburb of Valby on 6/18/1973.

    Super Session

I agree. I think the "sans" horns tracks are interesting on their own.
  6. I was just listening to the French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson album "Live Love Larf & Loaf" and there are a couple of tunes that could easily fit on any Magic Band album. Of course, it doesn't hurt that "Drumbo" is drumming.
  7. OK, Johnny - we disagree on this topic, then. ... not on "W", though ... B)
  8. There's a 2CD set that has just recently been issued on Blue Note called "Wayne Shorter- The Classic Blue Note Recordings". It might be a good set for you in that it includes work he did both with Blakey and as a solo artist.
  9. I have "Conjure", but haven't listened to it much, actually. As Jim mentioned, it is on American Clave, which is Kip Hanrahan's label. There are only 2 cuts with Reed. The sub-title of the album is "Music for the Texts of Ishmael Reed" and it's got a great lineup of musicians, which is not unusual for a Hanrahan project.
  10. And, I'd rather have Krall singing backup on a Costello record, than Costello singing backup on a Krall record. As much as I admire Elvis' attempts at expanding his style, for the most part I've found those CDs difficult to listen to. I just don't think he has the voice to sing anything but rock & roll.
  11. I couldn't not select "Idle Moments". It just has too many good performances on it.
  12. Hmmmmm. Or maybe it's like Caribbean-French - something like Haiti.
  13. They were a great band in their day. I saw them a couple of times although not at their peak when they were playing week-long gigs at "The Boarding House" in SF and getting rave reviews for their outrageous show. I probably saw them around their 2nd or 3rd albums. They still put on quite a performance. I don't think their albums quite do justice to the live event, but then again that's always the case. What Do You Want From Life??!?

    Super Session

I recently picked up an Electric Flag collection called "Old Glory" which has some pretty good vintage 60's stuff on it. I always thought that Nick Gravenites had a pretty good voice.
  15. Thanks, kdd! For some reason, I don't have Capra Black and didn't realize that it was a Strata-East album. How 'bout: - Ricky Ford - David Murray - Max Roach
  16. This has nothing to do with "One Flight Up" but I didn't want to start a new thread just for this question. +++ "Ca' Purange" - What language is it? What does it mean? How do you pronounce it? A French friend told me that it's not French. It's a great album, BTW.
  17. Chico Freeman Billy Harper Gary Bartz George Adams and/or Don Pullen Archie Shepp Larry Young
  18. Exac-ta-mundo!
  19. He does some nice work on Teddy Edwards/Howard McGhee's "Together Again" album. It's a great album anyway.
  20. Billy Cobham is also on the Santana/McLaughlin album.
  21. They recently added Gary Bartz' "I've Known Rivers" live set. Definitely worth picking up. I've seen a 2 album set of "Yo Miles!" by Henry Kaiser and Wadada Leo Smith, too.
  22. The Agonist Talking Points Memo
  23. WHOA! Pretty whack! Thanks for the link.
  24. Now, there's one group I NEVER liked.
  25. I was thinking of doing a Buddy Bolden discography. But seriously, folks .... You know, Charles isn't all that prolific. We could probably put together a pretty good discography right here. Rooster, you could start with what you already have and let the rest of us fill in the blanks.
