  1. I can't seem to get in, either. Geeeeeeez. This is making a dull morning at work.......really bad.
  2. EMusic is totally licensed and legal. No problem what-so-ever with the RIAA on this one. As for what you can do with your MP3s - you can do whatever you want with them. You own them. There's a free 50-tune, no committment trial period to see if you like the service. I recommend checking it out.
  3. FYI for anyone wanting to get a bunch of this stuff inexpensively - EMusic has all the Prestige stuff. You could probably download most of it during the free 50-tune trial period. OTOH, it's a great deal at $10/month for unlimited downloads.
  4. For $10/month it's an absolute NO-brainer. If you only d/l one album per month, it pays for itself (and who only downloads one album per month???)
  5. Check out Tadd Dameron's "Mating Call". It's a quartet date with Trane, Philly Joe Jones and John Simmons on bass. A very nice set.
  6. James Brown.

Just found a copy of "After Hours". Really looking forward to checking this one out.
  8. Just picked up "Straight Ahead" not realizing that it was the same album as "The Message". I had downloaded "Message" from EMusic, but had yet to listen to it. Anyway, I'm sure the CD is better quality than than the 128K MP3s that I already have. First time through, it's not grabbing me as anything special, but I think it needs repeated listenings. I'm still learning about J.R. at this point, anyway. The only other album I have with him is the live Kenny Dorham set.
  9. Be careful, Chris, after you see the other jazz available there, you may become an EMusic-a-holic, like myself. B)
  10. EMusic
  11. Seems like no deal to me. I did a focus group about them several months ago, and all I kept saying was that their pricing schedule was out of whack. Apparently they didn't listen too well. $9.95/month PLUS paying for "burn" rights and whatever else they charge per tune/album is rediculous.
  12. So, Chris, get yourself an EMusic account and you can have the whole enchilada for $10/month. In fact, you could probably just do the FREE 50-tune trial and get a good portion of that stuff without spending a penny.
  13. So, anyone picked up "Search For The New Land" or "Adam's Apple"?? Are they as great as they "should" be? Those two plus "MFJ" - I will have to pick up SOON.
  14. Oh, MAN! Do I REALLY have to buy this A G A I N ??? Sounds like I do ... DAMN! ... that interactive stuff doesn't work on most newer versions of Windows anyway, does it?
  15. For those who aren't familiar with the "Alfie" disk, it does NOT contain the tune that we all know and (some of us) hate that was made popular by Dionne Warwick. It's a really nice set - too short, though. Otherwise ... GOT to be:
  16. This seems amazing to me. What took them so long?? I think they're going to find that THIS is what music buyers are waiting for. Who knows, they might even have to consider going lower on the list price. Maybe it will even spark a price "war". Anyway, it's a start. I still remember buying records for $2.79 (+tax = $3). We'll never see that again, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
  17. I have always been a fan of "Enlightenment" and "Atlantis" myself. They are very high intensity live sessions, but I think he was still trying to define himself after Trane. I love "Supertrios", too. Both sessions are really killer - defined more by the different drummers than anything else. In fact, it's a real drumming "tour de force", IMO. Both Tony and Jack were really on during these dates.
  18. It's not a "flimsy" cardboard cover. It's a "heavy-duty" cardboard cover. Works for me, and I don't feel like I'm spending a lot of extra money for an over-designed, clumsy package (like a lot of box sets are these days - Charlie Christian, the rusty Bill Evans set, etc.) Whatever.....it's all about the music anyway. B)
  19. Back to "Blackhawk" Killer album. One of the best of the Miles boxes, I'm thinking. This band is just "on" and the great club atmosphere just adds to the mix. I'm picking disk 3 as my favorite so far, but it's all good and I'll probably be changing my mind later. If you haven't picked this up yet - DO IT TODAY! B)
  20. "What Is This Thing Called Soul?" - a live album from 1960 - is a real treat. It's the classic quintet cooking on all burners!
  21. "Something In Common" is a GREAT album. I didn't realize that it was one of Blue's last appearances.
  22. Not exactly a sideman date, but "Mapenzi" is a seriously great album. I HIGHLY recommend picking this one up. It's a real hardbop burner!
  23. I just discovered a great Wayne session on a Bobby Timmons disk called "Workin' Out". It's 2 sessions, actually, and Wayne is on the second one. It's from 1966 with Timmons, Ron Carter and Jimmy Cobb. Definitely worth checking out.
  24. Good for YOU, Dmitry! I hope you find Vol. 1. It shouldn't be THAT scarce.
