  1. They are going to be in DC on the 18th, but alas, I am going to see John Butcher and Keith Rowe that night. I did see the Angelica Sanchez Quintet I think a year ago at An Die Musik in Baltimore. Very good. If there are two sets, stay for the 2nd. Don't know Angelica Sanchez but she has a great bunch of sidemen, wish I could attend Saw last night Matana Roberts in solo followed by Matthew Shipp in the same format, both strong solid sets but the pianist stole the evening. Yes, Angelica is a bit low-profile, but this is unmistakably her group. Malaby is her husband.
  2. Is the Alchemia Club still a going concern in Krakow? Some fine jazz recordings made there. Looks like a cool jazz festival is taking place in Krakow from September through November 28th. Brotzmann will be there on Nov. 8th!

  7. This question came up in another thread. Apparently Amazon uses some kind of algorithm to track buyer interest and optimum sale price. That said, I have no idea how it works Sometimes the jumps--up or down--can be quite significant.

  12. Thanks for the detective work T.D. I would assume that the conductor would follow the composer's scoring, but I don't really hear all the instruments cited in the score. Maybe I need to get the wax out. I agree that "chamber orchestra" is more apt.
  13. If any of those are Strads, I can see why Anyway, the premise is close enough I think.
  14. OK, this is off topic, but I love the resemblance in such disparate albums:
  15. I agree. Don't know why Roth hasn't won the Nobel prize. He's not politically correct. I think he's a great author.
  16. I might be a good case in point. I used to drink Budweiser. One day I had this: And didn't look back. Also vary with this: When I go out, I now usually order a Pilsener or a Dutch beer, depending what's on tap. Still not a dark beer fan though.

  19. I watched and enjoyed. The social and political aspects could make for an interesting discussion over in the Politics thread
  20. I hoped to catch Butcher in NYC and Philly but work might make that difficult. However, I will see Butcher over 3 nights at the High Zero Festival in Baltimore, starting 9/22. Worth coming down for that!
