  1. I've had this for a little while now, and have listened about 2 1/2 times so far. Sounds like they had a lot of fun, but I may have to agree about the quantity of McFerrin duets. But, I have to say I'm not ready to make that judgment just yet; need more listening. I must say that, IMO, the multichannel mix of this Hybrid disc is sumptuous! Beautifully recorded; I'll be spending more time with this over the weekend. Package also included (which I've already misplaced) a reply card if interested in a possible DVD/VHS release of the ENTIRE 9 set show! Seems like a wonderfully ambitious project. I hope it's successful. Hybrid set (single inventory release) is priced reasonable at I believe around $22.99. Go get one!
  2. I'm gonna get started listening today so I can finally participate in this AOTW stuff.
  3. Anyone know of a SACD release? Then I could get rid of my JSACDs of these...perhaps to a board member at a friendly price!
  4. Finally got a copy of "Total Eclipse" in the mail today. Wow, diggin' it so far... B) Oh, and "Conquistador" is on the way. Another elusive one!
  5. It might need a poke, too...
  6. I've seen "Destination Out". I think a local vinyl store (Wax Trax) still has a couple. And maybe "Foxhole" as well.
  7. Hey Lon! Your avatar looks just like the Keynote LP Box! Was that intentional? Or based on something else?
  8. I'm ashamed to admit I love my PS2. I just completed the final missions of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Tons 'o fun! If only I made that kind of moula in real life! Also plays DVDs and DTS cds, DVD-Audio as well I think (just the Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks-it is NOT a DVD-Audio player). Oh, and of course, plain 'ol CDs...
  9. Many thanks CJ and Sundog! Thanks for helping me with my learning... I don't really understand it yet though, but I will try to listen to the tracks mentioned and apply what you've said.
  10. CJ: In all my jazz listening so far, I've not been able to ascertain exactly what "rhythm changes" sound like. I know it means it is based on the chord progression of "I Got Rhythm" but I can't say I know that song (that's pre-1950, right? Not an era I have listened to much) and haven't been able to isolate the pattern. So, whatever you have learned recently that made it "click" for you, I'd greatly appreciate you sharing that info. Thanks!
  11. Thanks BFrank! B)
  12. You and me both! I do occasionally consider changing my ways...adopting new ways...
  13. Yep, Barnes & Barnes; I believe you're right. My wife won't watch that one. Kinda follows the oft repeated credo: The only thing cooler than bands that get chicks, are bands that SCARE chicks... And I totally forgot about Rainbow in the 80's. That is a great video. I really like the Joe Lynn Turner years. Hey: Does anyone remember when MTV used to have a live concert every Saturday night? I recall an awesome Rainbow concert circa Straight Between The Eyes. The band was layin' it down, and Blackmore seemed like he was tripping out, perhaps chemically induced, perhaps not...But he played the gitar like a demon possessed! This is one I remember. There were lots of other great concerts broadcast on Saturdays. They should re-broadcast those. Perhaps an email...
  14. I'll bet Hong Kong Phooey would'nt smoke...
  15. Weizen: You're welcome. Glad you finally got a copy. Enjoy!
  16. Oh yeah, I gained 50 POUNDS!!! But, I really needed it; I had been the same size since high school...135 pounds...28" waist. So yeah, I hover around 180 to 185 pounds these days. 32" waist. I'd like to drop about 20 pounds, but Goddamn it's hard But I also started to eat more regularly, instead of my usual breakfast of coffee and cigarettes. Lots of gum-chewing too. Quitting smoking and falling in love...pretty hard on the 'ol waistline! But I'm certainly glad both happened. I can't believe I used to smoke those nasty things. I apologized to all my friends and thanked them for actually hanging around me all those years. Smokers stink! Nasty!
  17. That song mentioned above is "Fish Heads" and was done by a duo (can't remember the name right now) that included the guy who had been little Will Robinson on "Lost In Space". Does anyone get the channel VH-1 Classic? It can be very addicting at times. Sometimes they get on a roll, and play great blocks of classic videos. Takes you back... That said, I recently got to see the video for Poison's "Fallen Angel". Ooh, that chick in the video is a hottie! Guilty pleasure? Definitely! Oh, and also recently..."That's Good!" by DEVO!!! Oh my God!!! They show a banana (or something) penetrate a donut!
  18. I've always been curious about that Mark Isham-Silent Way Project. Can anyone offer recommendations on it, pro or con? Thanks.
  19. Weizen: I just found a Toshiba EMI TOJJ-5056(1999-2001)10" LP reissue of Jutta Hipp New Faces-New Sounds From Germany Blue Note BLP-5056(1955) on eBay. Jutta Hipp eBay auction You do vinyl, right? Chrisiern: Uncalled for? That's all he makes is uncalled for remarks. Is he a "formerly" nice person, who is now going on a downward spiral? Because he is probably alienating everyone in his life. Any knowledge or skillful musicianship he possesses is being quickly dissipated by his ongoing behavior and attitudes...and consumption... IMHO...
  20. Yikes! That's really painful, isn't it?
  21. That's really sad... P.S. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Damn, I hate Wingy! (see this thread at AAJ)
  22. Coming up on 9 years since I quit smoking cigarettes. I smoked from age 13 (made me cool...yeah right) to 29. Watching my mother die of lung cancer did it for me. Cold turkey! I still smoke, just not cigarettes... I always said if I was gonna give up one or the other, it would definitely be the cigarettes. I really should try to give up smoking the 'other'. . . NAH!!! P.S. My wife quit smoking about a week later. We weren't married yet. Two years later, on our honeymoon in Aruba, we tried it again and, like Jazzmoose, it made me sick as a dog. I felt like I had POISON in my body (come to think of it, I did; that's what they are...)
  23. Don't know if it's craziness, but just look what Spain did to this Tina Brooks True Blue cover!!! True Blue auction Very funky-looking!
  24. I really liked the first two Garbage albums. ( Didn't care for the third nearly as much, or maybe I haven't spun it enough yet. ) Totally agree about Garbage! First 2 (+ all the b-sides) are fantastic. They definitely give me a rush, but I sure wouldn't call it a "jazz" high. The third "BeautifulGarbage" has taken awhile to reveal itself to me. But we saw 'em open up for No Doubt late last year and they OWNED Denver that nite! (So did No Doubt BTW). And the new songs rocked! So I really need to give that one a spin again...probably right now! And Bjork is an incredible artist who can change and mix genres of music with a flick of her cute little wrist... "It's Oh So Quiet" by her. Wow!!! You either love it or hate it. Count me with the former. What a big band!!! Bjork-always a good time in concert. I've only seen one, and I danced my ass off! But I've viewed many others and she delivers the goods.
