  1. I do not know a thing about running a record company, and maybe Chuck would know the answer to this, but would not Mosaic have insurance to cover all the lost tapes and the lost business?
  2. Mosaic owns outright the Benedetti Parker Tapes, so I think you can safely assume there will be another run.
  3. I'll give it a try. What are the match-ups for the playoffs? I can't seem to find the set up anywhere on the net.
  4. 81st. win by the Mariners tonight, so it is officially a .500 year. Also with the win, Felix Hernandez is now 18-5. Great comeback year for the Mariners!
  5. Funny and true story from the Sunday Mariners game. No one could believe it when it happened.
  6. Nice, close game between Detroit & Minnesota, had a nice play off atmosphere. Twins win 3-2, and are one game out of first, they play again tonight.
  7. Hey, we're a Oprah Reading Group™ now!
  8. I don't get Bobby Cox either -- never have, never will. It's like he's asleep in the dugout, only popping up to yell and screamm at an umpire, and then get thrown out of the game. I still can't get use to the fact that Rockin' Lee Mazzilli is not sitting next to him either. Just knowing he's dead in the dugout, managing the Braves, it enough for me never to watch the Braves at all. Leo Mazzone, but you knew that. I'm trying to remember though I think they missed each other by a year or 3 with the O's, but just think if manager Lee Mazzilli had hired Leo Mazzone as his pitching coach? I doubt Dave Niehaus could have handled it when the M's played the O's. *edited to add I would hope that they would open a restaurant together given the naming possibilities. Mazzilli - Mazzone, toe-may-toe, toe-mah-to....

  10. My 2¢: I like this Crosby box and I will probably get it also. Crosby is very underrated in terms of jazz signing and I think this set will surprise a lot of people in terms of artistic quality.
  11. Don't worry, we're just warming up for the playoffs, where our Yankee hatred will really come out....
  12. Wow! I love this news! Pre-order is right.
  13. Great celebration! Did you see the fans leave for the exits the second the last out was made! Great fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Great that you were able to see the show, and that you enjoyed. I'm underwhelmed by PT lately, I'll have to get the new cd and give it a try, but to my ears they're getting in a rut. Russia on Ice, Sound Of Muzak, Trains, meh, not too excited about that. I do not want to be a wet blanket, but I think that Wilson isn't doing anything different, which is okay, but he just seems stagnant to me. Sorry, I'm just down on PT right now.
  15. The reality of why this person who wasn't around at the time is posting is this sad fact: I am 100x more confident in my rock music judgment than I am in my jazz judgment. It's hard to explain, but rock is something I've grown up with, it's my first memory of music, and I feel that I "know" this music on a level that I don't know jazz.
  16. Two things about September baseball: 1. Thank goodness there is an alternative to football -- I've said this before, but football stinks, hurry up basketball! 2. The announcers for the teams out of the race talk about everything under the sun, eg., today the Mariner announcers are talking about Westlemania and the nickname for the University of Toronto team (The Varsity Blues). PS: Now they're onto sideburns... PSS: 3. Quick four inning 0-0 scores after 40 minutes.
  17. I usually listen to either The Message or Escape on XM Radio, both are kind of a positive way to start the day.
  18. Speaking of the Zep, 41 years ago today, they went into the studio to begin to record Led Zeppelin I. Page paid for the studio time out of his savings, and it cost him £1,782 (about $4,300 at the time). I think he made his money back on this investment.
  19. At the start of the year would any one have said that, at this point in the season, Seattle would have a better record than Tampa Bay? No one thought that. Tampa Bay has to be the most disappointing team in baseball this year, I really thought that they would win the East. Guess that's why the play the games on the field. However, great surprise season my the Mariners.
  20. What I found really interesting about the music hall influence is that it did not come to the forefront until Rubber Soul onward, after RS, there was an explosion of different musical influences shooting out all over the place, not the least of which was this looking backward to the music hall.
  21. Ian MacDonald: Revolution In The Head. Song by song examination of the Beatles. Very interesting so far.
  22. Anthology (which should be called Mythology but makes a nice coffee table book) Just curious about your take on the Anthology book. I purchased it some 8 years ago, however, it has pretty much sat on the coffee table since then; I've never spent any time reading it, though I have perused the images from time to time. I was under the impression that just like the similarly named documentary the Anthology text was supposed to be the Beatles "in their own words" so I guess I'm wondering in what sort way embellishment / mythologizing takes place. I hadn't heard this before so I'm quite curious. Oh, and thanks for your other reading recommendations. The one thing I got from the Anthology book, (which mostly I use for the pictures) is McCartney speaking about the Music Hall influence upon the Beatles, which I thought interesting. In fact, thinking about it, you could say that all of Sgt. Pepper takes place in a music hall. The other topic I always wondered about is the Art School influence, sort of why is it that every rock musician in 1960's England attended art school? I'm just starting MacDonald's book, and he talked a little bit about the art schools, but I still would like to read more on this area, and also the music hall aspect of the Beatles.
  23. Disk two. I love the Zep, but watching disk two always makes me think of Spinal Tap, but I adore very second of this DVD.
  24. Welcome back!
