Even though I started this thread because I loved the idea of a gettogether, it is Patty and Dan who have taken it over. I APPROVE!! We need organizers and people who have the motivation to make this a reality. I will take either place, but in order of preference: 1. Lansing (Home of Organissimo) 2. St. Louis Why can't we do both? St. Louis in July when the festival hits and Lansing early next year during some holidays. What are the holidays January through March? Lansing is the home of Organissimo and is close to Chicago, where we have some members. Patty is willing to make the trip from her glacier home. Chuck is nearby in Grand Rapids. I'm nearby. Jim Dye. Bol is in Ann Arbor along with another board member. Soulstream is in Ohio? Ghost is in Indiana which is nearby. On the other hand, Rooster and Free For All and Eric are from KC which isn't far from St. Louis. They could hopefully make it over to Lansing as well. I am willing to house an Organissimo boardmember here in Toledo for the weekend and I can drive him up to Lansing for the meeting. No problem. First come; first served! I could possibly put up with two people if they don't mind staying together. Don't forget: the whole idea is to show up at Joe G's place with guns!

There used to be an Irish band based in Nottingham, UK called Patty O'Doors and the Sun Loungers. I alwas though Hatfield and the North was an odd name - the band were named after the first sign on the M1. And one for the medieval history buffs that I've mentioned before - an English folk reggae band (seriously...dub meets morris dancing) who called themselves Edward II and the Red Hot Polkas. Sadly they changed this to Edward II and more recently EIIK.

The Indy Jazz Festival (Indianapolis) will be held tomorrow 9/27. The festival was scaled back to one day (from three) this year due to financial difficulties (weather realted) with the previously organization. It will go back to a full three days in 2004. This years line-up includes: The Count Basie Big Band w/ Patty Austin (Tribute to Ella) Terence Blanchard Sextet Arron Parks Trio Hilton Ruiz Quartet Buddy Montgomery (brother of Wes) The Hampton Sisters (of Slide Hampton) Buselli Walarab Jazz Orchestra (great) Cathy Morris The Following night there is another show (not part of the Indy Jazz Fest) at the Fountain Square Theater with the this Line-up (all born or raised in Indianapolis). Caught another very worthy Dick Sherman date. He was the trumpet player on tenor saxophonist Buddy Arnold's 1956 date for ABC-Paramount 'Wailing'. The session was reissued years ago on LP by Fresh Sounds. And it's really wailing. Very similar to the wonderful albums that Al Cohn and Joe Newman recorded for RCA at around the same time. The band is Dick Sherman, Frank Rehak, Gene Quill, John Williams, Teddy Kotick and Shadow Wilson. Dave Schildkraut and Osie Johnson sub for Quill and Wilson on several sides. Dick Sherman provided two originals 'Patty's Cake' and 'Moby Dick'. Arnold plays bass clarinet and Quill clarinet on 'Patty's Cake'. Buddy Arnold is a very good player out of the Brothers school. Goldfish Is Placed in Sling 17-Year-Old Goldfish Is Placed in Sling So He Can Swim Again The Associated Press SCOTIA, N.Y. April 25 — A 17-year-old goldfish can swim again thanks to a bunch of do-gooding humans. Customers at the Sky Port diner near Schenectady came up with the idea of a creating a fish sling after Dick the goldfish fell ill in November and had difficulty swimming. Patty Sherman, who owns the diner with her two sisters, Joanna Dewey and Mary Ann Parker, said Dick could barely move across the bottom of his fish tank located behind the counter. A customer whose daughter is studying to be a veterinarian had his daughter research fish ailments. She reported back that Dick was likely suffering from swim bladder disease and prescribed a diet of cooked peas to be hand fed to Dick three times a day, Sherman said. To remedy Dick's swimming problem, several customers devised a sling made up of fishing bobbers, drinking straws, gauze and string. When the 8-inch-long fish is placed in the sling, he's able to swim like normal. Sherman said customers find it relaxing to sit at the counter and watch Dick in his tank. "Everybody's rooting for him," she said Tuesday. danasgoodstuff-just to clarify I don't have a problem with the early country/pop sound.What I was trying to get across was for those people who prefer the more traditional sound and were upset by the pop elements in todays mainstream country music.Those people point a finger at today's mainstream country artists when in fact country and pop mixing has been going on for sometime. clarifying part two-while I don't have a problem with the early pop/country sound (Patsy and Jim Reeves were quite good and the arrangements served them hansomely)I still think some of it is dreck but perhaps not as much as today like Toby Keith and Travis Tritt(two legends in their own minds.)Shania and Faith Hill(Yecch!!!). Thanks to artists like Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam country isn't in the vile state that it was when Olivia Newton-John won a CMA award but a certain degree of stagnation has set in or like George Strait and Alan Jackson sang "Murder on Music Row.

Patty's 'Mountain Soul' is indeed a great pleasure. If you like St. Emmylou's 'Roses in the Snow' you'll enjoy the Loveless. As to her mainstream country records they all have that glitzy pop-country sound with rather 'paint-by-numbers' rawk guitar bits and anodyne fiddle; but the songs stay in your mind and her voice is very affecting. I strongly recommend 'Long Stretch of Lonesome' - the duet with George Jones ('You Don't Seem to Miss Me') is a spinetingling bit of harmony singing. For other more bluegrassy or raw recent country seek out the great Gillian Welch, the consistently excellent Julie and Buddy Miller and vocalists like Heather Myles and Kelly Willis.

I took my wife to see Vince Gill a couple of years ago, with Patty opening. I admire Vince as a singer and guitarist (for sure), but it was Patty that impressed me the most. There was just something in her music that seemed to speak to me in a way. It was kind of nice, actually. Haven't heard her bluegrass album; I imagine it's good.

I was just teasing about Shania. She's okay. My wife loves her music. I just like to have fun because the production of her latest albums are so non-country. I'll see if my wife has any Patty Loveless. I'm not really up on the current singers. Most of my country comes from Bear Family or old lps.

I thought 'The Woman in Me' was a great pop-country album. I was less impressed by the one that came next but could understand its popularity. I havn't heard the recent one - the odd song I've heard on the radio hasn't really drawn me in, probably because of all the reservations mentioned above. If you want great pop-country female vocals go for Patty Loveless - whoever does the quality control on her song choices rarely lets you down!
