Side one of Lou Donaldson's "Gravy Train" NY Mono

I really love the way Lou plays on "Polka Dots and Moonbeams." Prety straightforward, but he's got such a nice tone that it's perfect for the slow ones like this tune.

Lee Morgan - Take Twelve

Phineas newborn, Jr - Newborn Touch

Both 1980s reissues.

My first time playing the Lee disc. Nothing jaw-dropping, but has Lee ever made a bad album?! Newborn Touch...well, Phineas was genius.

[Matador] by Kenny Dorham. It has been issued on CD but I am listening to the LP. This is CD cover though, from allmusic.

Been spinning some Kenny Clarke & Lennie McBrowne LPs that arrived today. Ordinarily I'm happy to make due with cd-rs of vinyl...but in this case, I decided that upgrading to the real thing would be a good thing. The two cd-rs of these ones have gotten alot of play 'round here over the years.

Great album Tooter - love the playing by Bobby Timmons and Jackie Mac on this one, in addition to great Dorham. Is this the UA version?

Currently on deck:

Sandy Brown 'Hair at its Hairiest' (Fontana)

Tubby Hayes 'The Orchestra' (Fontana)

and waiting in the wings:

Illinois Jacquet Mosaic LP1

Miles Davis 'Miles In Tokyo' (CBS/Sony Japan).

Not sure about Miles, but Tony Williams sure seemed to enjoy playing alongside Sam Rivers.

Thgis is a great album!
