Shorty Rogers and his Giants; Volume 2 The Rarest; RCA Jazzline (France).

The extended tracks by the Augmented Giants are particularly nice imo. Hopefully I can find the time to spin the Atlantic albums.

Yes, Clickin' With Clax is a winner. Returning to RCA, I also treasure the big band albums Blues Express and Portrait of Shorty, bought in the 80s. :)

That French RCA JazzLine Shorty Rogers, vol. 2 'The Rarest Shorty Rogers' is the LP with two of the tracks recorded as by Boots Brown & his Blockbusters (Rogers, Bernhardt, Shank, Giuffre, Mulligan, etc...) that don't seem to have ben reissued since!

I still keep that LP.

Now spinning:

Coleman Hawkins 'Back in Bean's Bag' (Columbia, stereo)

Terje Rypdal/Miroslav Vitous/Jack DeJohnette - To Be Continued (ECM). Picked this up a little while back and just got around to playing it. My first impression is that it's more atmosphere than substance.

That's my impression of a fair number of ECMs that I've heard.

I like those three players but not that record.

Dizzy Gillespie; A Portrait of Duke Ellington. Verve/Polydor (France).

No arranger credit appears in the liner note. Anyone know please.

Dizzy Gillespie; The Greatest Trumpet Of Them All Verve/Poygram(France)

Now that's a rarity (and a very good album, too!) I'm afraid I only have an audio tape of a friend's copy.

I think I recall a cd issue with an extra track. Agreed a very nice album, nice choice of tunes and attractive arrangements.
