Isn't that LP from the series of LPs that were almost $80 each list price?

Nobody Knows My Name - Blues from South Carolina and Georgie (Heritage)

Recordings done by Lawrence Gellert in the mid1920s to early 1930s. All of the musicians are unnamed and there's a wonderful guitarist on a number of the cuts which were recorded in Atlanta. As the liner notes state, he owes a debt to Lonnie Johnson, but where Lonnie Johnson tended toward perfection, this musician incorporates jazz chords and runs into his playing and sometimes seems as if he's barely holding it together. Somehow, he does and it's fun to listen to him do so.

My friend Doug Price has been doing a blues radio show for the past 29 years. I used to sit in with him at the station and I remember we used to play tracks off this record and enjoy listening to the guitarist. As I recall, since he was anonymous, we used to refer to him as "that guitarist". I still think of him that way.

Yes, it is.

Not cheap, but original mono BN albums are very scarce and highly priced. ( Holland )

I buy these albums on Ebay for about $ 40/60 a piece.

Does this reissue use the sound "fix" that Kevin Gray & Steve Hoffman originally created for the 45 rpm LP release? Supposedly, the mater tape has "Do not use - dropouts" on the box but they figured out that it wasn't dropouts but Sonny walking around the mic during the recording so they somehow managed to level it out. According to Hoffman, it was a tough tape to master. Since Kevin Gray cut these Japanese mono LPs, did he use the same technique over again or does this have those "dropout" sounds?

Art Hodes - Mostly Blues (Audiophile). There's lots of discussion here about the sonic merits of various pressings, but Ewing Nunn's Audiophile label consistently issued some of the best-sounding records of the time. Audiophile's 1971 album by the Olympia Brass Band is still the best-recorded New Orleans brass band performance on record. But Nunn recorded traditional jazz almost exclusively, and I guess that limits the appeal for a lot of folks. This Hodes album was recorded in Chicago in 1957; it's an enjoyable performance, and sounds great, of course.

Marshall Allen and Kash Killon - Two stars in The Universe [Little Rocket Records]beautifully recorded, very intimate

Yes, this really is a sublime record. Amazing sound but considering the circumstances pretty incredible. It's calming experience but exciting at the same time. A gem.
