Matthew Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Classic Condon Mob Sessions. Disk one, the Bud Freeman and His Famous Chicagoans session is great. Quote
CSB046 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Just got a copy of the Tony Williams Select in the mail today. I'm almost finished with Disc 1, and I like it quite a bit. (And I say that despite listening to several of the songs during my first workout on my new elliptical machine. Even proving that I'm woefully out of shape couldn't put a damper on this music!) Quote
sidewinder Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Just got a copy of the Tony Williams Select in the mail today. I'm almost finished with Disc 1, and I like it quite a bit. Isn't that one on back-order at Mosaic? (you must have got it from a retailer, I guess). It's on my shortlist of Selects, for sure (even though I have all the originals - love this stuff). CSB046 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Isn't that one on back-order at Mosaic? (you must have got it from a retailer, I guess). Yeah, I happened across someone on Amazon selling a brand new copy for $39.85 (plus $2.98 shipping). I received it in just a couple of days too. Can't complain! Quote
John Tapscott Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Quincy Jones - just received, now spinning disc 1. Quote

mellowT Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 This morning I'm spinning Curtis Amy. I'm good as long as I avoid that first disc. Something about this set reminds me of the Jazz Crusaders. Quote

brownie Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Johnny Mercer Mosaic Select, CD1! Have mixed feelings so far... Quote
happy the clown Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Anthony Braxton Disc 5 (Creative orchestra Music 1976 and part of the Montreux / Berlin Concerts). Love it. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Johnny Mercer Mosaic Select, CD1! Have mixed feelings so far... Really? I've been groovin' along to it far more than I thought I would. A 'sleeper' of a Mosaic IMO - pleasant suprise. Although maybe not one to play back to back all 3 disks (unless it's a choice between that and the entire FF Set ! ). Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Disc 1. Last track is the best. Quote

paul secor Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Jackie McLean 1964-1966 The Consequences recordings. Decent session. David Rosenthal in his notes remarks " ...for reasons equally hard to understand - it remained unissued until the late '70s when it appeared as part of the 'Blue Note Classics' series." I don't think it's hard to understand why it remained unreleased for almost 15 years. Who needed another one of these in the '60s? Quote

Got better when I jumped to disc 2 and getting even better now that I am listening to disc 3! Great to hear - I was beginning to doubt my hearing/judgement ! His interpretations of the tunes are in many cases memorable, I think. Unexpectedly so. Definite to Scott for compiling this set. Edited April 29, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
