mjzee Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 Well, y'know, some days he can produce 6 CDs, other days, nothing. Such is the creative muse. Quote
David Ayers Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 You say that as a joke but as you probably know some of his projects literally are go in the studio (maybe with someone he never played with) record a few hours, issue four CD set. I guess if that's what folks want... Quote
mjazzg Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 I'm not sure that is what the folks want...well at least not this one.I'm a big AB fan and like to try and keep abreast of the developments in his music but I simply don't have the resources to purchase big sets on even a semi-regular basis. I do get frustrated by releases like this as I wonder who they really serve in the end. Obviously AB has every right to document his music in the way that he wishes and to release it in whichever format but I wonder how many of his 'friendly experiencers' miss out because of his choices.Further up thread there's discussion of how the shift to annual membership of Tricentric lost the foundation some subcribers because of the financial impact of the change. If any part of the process of releasing material is to enable it to be heard by the widest audince (maybe that's not a consideration) then someone needs to take a look at how it's currently done.Yes, this is a bit of a rant - a rant born of the frustration of not hearning what I'd like to - entirely selfish and as a fan I have no right to dicate but I can moan! Leeway Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Those Soundcloud clips sounded pretty good to me. I think we're into a new phase of Braxtonia from the sound of it. CD Universe is offering the box at $90, a lot but not completely out of line. You know you want it Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Four distinctive and wonderful improvisers, but I would have to save the box for retirement listening (that is if I can retire). I can barely make it through a Mosaic anymore (time and attention, not quality-related), and that is starting to bum me out. Quote

Yes, the lack of time to listen is becoming almost as big a consideration as budget. Quote

Leeway Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 I ordered the 4 CD set with Rainey & Fujiwara. I saw that box at the Braxton concert but didn't pull the trigger (now you have to be a member to get it). Anyway, would still like to get it. Would be interested in reactions to it. One question I had about it was whether Braxton played duos with each drummer, or with both drummers at the same time, since the album is called "Trio (New Haven) 2013," or both? I've not seen that clarified anywhere. Quote

I've not seen that clarified anywhere. It's a Trio. They al play together. I got the new 12 cd set a few days ago. That one is all duets. I'm truly a diehard Braxton fan, and for me his playing is my favorite aspect of his work. We get to hear lots of him on these smaller groupings. Carville Quote

Steve Reynolds Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 I haven't bought a Braxton CD in ages - specifically a newer recording. I wavered on buying the duet 4 CD set with Hemingway (Old Dogs) I think I will order this one Quote

Maybe only available to members prior to commercial release? I don't see a price on it at the site, but I know Braxton was selling the sets for $40 at the Roulette show. Quote

Sorry to belabor this, but it says $47 at tri-centric ( maybe that's not the member price) & $42 at Amazon. Of course, both are apparently more than at the live show. Quote
erwbol Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 A Tri-centric email from a month or so ago made mention of a third box set (4 CDs) of Echo Echo Mirror House music being released, yet I can only find the Duets and Trio box sets on http://tricentricfoundation.org/all-releases/. Unfortunately, I deleted the email a while ago. Does anyone know when it will be released or still have the e-mail in their inbox? Quote

Leeway Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 I'm really looking forward to the Echo Echo Mirror House multi-CD release. I loved the previous release, thought it was one of the best of the year. Quote

David Ayers Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Since I am just listening again to a couple of discs where Braxton plays piano, can I ask, am I the only one that finds his piano playing a little underwhelming? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Fair enough. I do like his composing for piano, however. Quote
AllenLowe Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 I've never heard the titles, but I believe Ursula Oppens plays his piano pieces somewhere. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) yep, Arista LP "For Two Pianos" with Rzewski. There may also be another one that I'm forgetting. Edited July 7, 2014 by clifford_thornton Quote
