Plas, as in Plas Johnson?

Same as "sand".  I have some concert recordings with Plas with intro tracks and that's how they said it.

Another possibility is "plahss" how to pronounce "Plas"

And also, keep in mind that:

P is for pure, the spiritual side of you.

L is for lively, your life is full of energy!

A is for accord, the harmony you spread.

S is for sensational, you know how to make a splash!

Okay. What about Jouk Minor?

Is he a soft giouk or a hard yook?

And is it short for something?

I actually asked a French friend these questions a year ago and he acted like I had gone insane and claimed that there was no such name, which I felt was harsh.

I've used this site for years and, for me, there's always a button with the triangle "play" icon.

The recording is someone saying Yan GAR-bar-ek

That means I had it almost exactly right; I would usually tend to say Yan Gar-BAR-ek.

What makes this particular case potentially tricky is that it's a Polish name, Garbarek's father was Polish ... So unless the pronunciations in the two languages coincide, it also depends on Jan's preferences which of the two pronunciations he prefers for his name...
