ghost of miles Posted December 27, 2004 Author Report Posted December 27, 2004 If we're talking more than jazz, Elliott's makes the very top of the list. I played that one more than any other new CD I got this past year. Quote
Cali Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 Alice Coltrane's TRANSLINEAR LIGHT Miles Davis' MILES ELECTRIC DVD (That IOW Concert footage is the most riveting thing I've seen/heard in years. Outstanding.) Quote
jazzmessenger Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Another Kind of Blue: The Latin Side of Miles Davis - Conrad Herwig Nonet I saw the band and got the CD last night. (I meant to get it for a long time, but didn't till yesterday.) I am spinning the CD right now, and I must say this is a heck of great music. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Have to add this which I got only now, but which is great! Quote
adam hill Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 there's a new release by a new band out of Sacramento, CA that I like quite a lot: Race Quintet and the record is called TRAVELS. I think about the only place you can find it is on cdbaby. It's worth looking into. A review is forthcoming on www.onefinalnote.com Quote
LWayne Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 In no particular order: McCoy Tyner "Illumination" Dirty Dozen Brass Band "Funeral for a Friend" Fred Hersch "Fred Hersch Trio + 2" Ben Allison "Buzz" Joe Lovano "I'm All For You" Buster Williams "Griot Liberte" David Weiss "The Mirror" Frank Kimbrough "Lullabyeblue" Matthias Lupri "Transition Sonic" LWayne Quote
.:.impossible Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 If we're talking more than jazz, Elliott's makes the very top of the list. I played that one more than any other new CD I got this past year. See I've been pretty bummed by the posthumous release, and I haven't talked to too many people about it UNTIL they've brought up the fact that they didn't feel it either. I do like the second side better than the first, but I think they tried to do too much with too much. There are some great songs though I don't think it works as an album. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 This is a hard question. Most everything I want is already on CD, it's just a matter of obtaining it. Maybe Brasil 66, Fool On The HIll, although it was a rather dissapointing album. Quote
Bol Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 (edited) Don Byron, "Ivey-Divey" (Blue Note) Tony Malaby, "Adobe" (Sunnyside) Jacob Young, "Evening Falls" (ECM) Marilyn Crispell, "Storyteller" (ECM) In that order. Byron's is probably my favorite release in the last 3-4 years. And Malaby's is a really lovely lovely record. I am also tempted to add Liberty Ellman's "Tactiles" (Pi), but strictly speaking that was 2003. Edited January 28, 2005 by Bol Quote

bertrand Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Grachan Moncur III: Exploration. I just picked this up. This is a FABULOUS record. The arrangements are just right and really do justice to Grachan's music. Talk about a comeback album. Bertrand. Quote
