Check out Vidal's version of "Ida Lupino" in particular. Interesting spin.

Thanks. That is indeed interesting. Even though it's a pretty radical deconstruction of the tune. I'm going to listen to the whole album.

4 albums by that trio, this one-off chamber album, and some big-band albums. They all show her continued growth,as a composer.

And if, like maybe a lot of people (myself included), you sorta stopped paying attention after a certain point, there are plenty of delightful examples that you were wrong for that. Very wrong.

There was a long history with Bley/Mantler and Eicher. Their New Music Distribution Service provided ECM with their first real American outlet, and Eicher never forgot the favor.

I remember receiving those NMDS catalogs in the mail and reading them from cover to cover.

Great article. Thanks - edit to add that their discussion on distribution was really interesting as it was true insider info.

Hard to imagine it today, but ECM was really an "outsider" label in its earliest days. The availability that NMDS provided them was so crucial to their eventual success.

Yes. To be honest, I'd never heard of her until noticing the upcoming listing. There's a definite physical resemblance.

I would like to see her at Big Ears, but her time slot is pretty crowded with other artists I want to see. It will probably be a last-minute decision.
