Randy Twizzle Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I used to feel that the world would have been a lot better off if I had never been born, but then my guardian angel came down and showed me that it would have only been a little better off. Quote
chris olivarez Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 (edited) It's snowing as I type this. Those who like to take pictures of a boatload of snow especially at this time of the year. I guess Christmas for me at this paticular moment boils down to staying warm and keeping my ass on the road. How much are you supposed to get? We got socked with 15 inches a couple of weeks back. Felt like Christmas that weekend!! Possibly up to a foot in town and much higher in the mountains. It couldn't come at a better time. We have all kind of skiers coming in from out of town and Wolf Creek Ski Area better have the fire standing by because those people will definitely be heating uo the cash registers. Big Al Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Put me in the "spirit hasn't hit me yet" camp. I've certainly had worse Christmases, and any Christmas that doesn't involve me doing a community theater Christmas play (like I did in '02) is a good Christmas. Nothing to complain about, but then again nothing to really jump & shout about, either. Just..... there, I guess. Quote
J Larsen Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Man, we're a bunch of wet blankets. I have a 400+ page report due on... drum roll please... the morning of January 2. Quote

I have a 400+ page report due on... drum roll please... the morning of January 2.Have you started yet? Yes... I'm not nearly that bad. It's already over 400 pages. However, I'm finding that editing a document of this length poses unique challenges - my previous record was something like 125 pages. Quote

Matthew Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 When ever I started to feel down this Christmas season, I just played this clip, and, believe me, the blues just go! Quote
Big Al Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Was listening to some Christmas music on the way home and played Rosemary Clooney's wistful version of "Christmas Time is Here." That perfectly captured my mood: wistful, longing for the wide-eyed joy of Christmas I had when I was a kid. Quote

That perfectly captured my mood: wistful, longing for the wide-eyed joy of Christmas I had when I was a kid. Sadly, it will never happen. But I do get to relive it somewhat through my wide-eyed 6 y.o. son. Man, that's worth its weight in gold. Quote

GA Russell Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Yesterday I had hernia surgery. Today (my birthday) I'm on pain medication, listening to Dexter, and counting my blessings. Season's best to all of you! Happy Birthday David! Good luck to you. Hope your health improves pronto! Quote

Son-of-a-Weizen Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 David, follow doctors orders. . . on the pain medication dosage AND other things! Want you to have a speedy recovery. Thanks. I was just about to skip some pain meds, but decided to obey orders...at least until tomorrow. David I had the double inguinal surgery about a year and a half ago. I couldn't believe how painful it was...and I took the meds. Catching the stomach flu 24 hours after leaving the hospital and having dry heaves with all that lovely new stitching was the worst thing I've ever experienced. Good luck & a quick recovery to ya!! That perfectly captured my mood: wistful, longing for the wide-eyed joy of Christmas I had when I was a kid. Sadly, it will never happen. Perhaps not, but that's never stopped me form trying. Sometimes I think I end up shooting myself in the foot by trying too hard. I think that's the case this year. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits me Christmas Eve, after church, driving home in the dark and quiet. But I do get to relive it somewhat through my wide-eyed 6 y.o. son. Man, that's worth its weight in gold. Same here with my wide-eyed 10-year-old. Watching him in the holiday spirit makes Christmas that much more enjoyable. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Just back from Badger's Christmas Curry, feeling full of the Christmas Spirit, and Cobra lager, and Lamb Monipuri. You know how you feel when you've eaten so much your back aches? Oh, it's great! And........ I won a mini packet of corn flakes in the raffle!!!!!! MG Quote

Free For All Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 When I was a kid, Christmas was a blast. I think it's important to keep it that way for anyone who has kids. This year, with both parents gone and my marriage officially over with (as of about a week ago), the holiday has kind of an empty feel to it. I guess I need to move into the next chapter of my life and start a new tradition to fill up the emptiness. I'm trying to not feel sorry for myself (see signature below) and there are many who are much worse off than I, but I'm just trying to get through it this year, with hopes of returning to a more positive feeling about it next time around. I still get sentimental from the usual stimuli, but it's more because my emotions are right at the surface. So to those of you who have the spirit strong, I say RIGHT ON! For those of you who may have the blues, I totally understand. It's a weird time of year. It really exaggerates your emotional state, up or down. I hope to never experience it like this again. Hanging out here does cheer me up. How sad is that? Quote
Aggie87 Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Thanks for sharing, Free. My feelings fluctuate between the highs and the lows this year. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to work out a plan with my ex that would enable me to take my kids and visit my side of the family while they were all together, but was just able to reach an agreement yesterday. So that's a positive - moreso for the kids and my mom, who will now get to see her grandkids all at the same time. I'm still working on moving into the next phase of my life, and it's been 2.5 years since my marriage was officially over. Not sure how long it really takes, but I'm patient. Some things are looking up in some areas though, so that's good. I agree with you that this place helps raise spirits. And I dig your signature! Quote
mikelz777 Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 (edited) Sometimes I think the problem that many people encounter is that they think that they should feel differently than they do or that they should feel a certain way based on others expectations. If you get into the state of mind that you're "not making the grade" then it's easy to feel like you're out of sorts and like you have the holiday blues. We're not always going to reach those emotional highs but that doesn't necessarily mean the holidays are going to be a washout either. I'm trying harder and harder to connect with my faith and the reason Christians celebrate Christmas. It puts everything else into perspective. Edited December 21, 2006 by mikelz777 Quote
