I have the Shandar LPs and am wondering if there is additional, unreleased music from that concert (or if there was another concert than the 29 July '69 "Second Act of A" performance)... there is, of course, circulating material from other gigs by the same quartet. That sounds promising! Quote

Since Resonance reissued Albert Ayler's Foundation Maeght recording a few years ago, they should have access to Cecil Taylor's tapes too. Andrew Cyrille is in top form here, so I hope they release it while he's still alive. The Great Concert of Cecil Taylor aka Second Act of A is my favorite Cecil Taylor. Recordings from his quartet around that time, as far as I know, are: 1969/2/8 Grinnell College, IA 1969/7/29 Foundation Maeght, France aka “Second Act of A” 1969/11/4 Copenhagen, Denmark (w/ color video!) 1969/11/5 Stockholm, Sweden 1969/11/6 Berlin, Germany 1969/11/9 Rotterdam, Netherlands aka “Cecil Taylor Quartet In Europe” 1969/11/10 Stuttgart, Germany aka “Fragments of a Dedication to Duke Ellington” Are there any others? add 1969/11/2 London, UK - Ronnie Scott's - BBC TV broadcast - I have a 7 minute recording of "Fragments of a Dedication....." colinmce Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Awesome news, long overdue. Some extra music would be nice, but I’d be more than happy to just finally have the original recordings on CD. Now if we could just get someone to do a wide physical release of the ‘73 Town Hall concert, I’ll never not be annoyed by how that was handled. Quote

Replace “annoyed” with “frankly pissed” and I am with you. Total BS. Quote
felser Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 (edited) I'd certainly be in for a CD release of the '73 concert. I have the grey market Jazz Door CD's of the '69 concert, so will wait to see how much this release is an improvement, and what the price point is. But this is good news, no matter what. The Sam Rivers sessionography references an audience recording of an afternoon performance from the day before. No idea if it was professionally recorded. Great news that Second Act of A may be getting reissued--the interplay between Taylor and Cyrille on that set is stunning. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 24 Report Posted September 24 Good call on the Rivers sessionography; I don’t have the physical book though the online version is easy enough to check into. Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted Thursday at 11:14 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:14 PM This will be a "please take my money" release for me. Quote

king ubu Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago Great news about the 1969 concert! Someone should release Stuttgart 1966. SWR Jazzhaus would be the obvious choice, not sure they're still active though. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago That Stuttgart set is fantastic. Quote
