Christiern Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 I paid $75 for this and it was worth every penny. I am almost sorry that I already have it, because this price is ridiculous. Think of what you get.....years and years of fantastic writing, great cartoons and interesting advertisements. This is the New Yorker starting with issue 1 (1925) and it is every page of every issue. Go for it! Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Thanks, Chris--after wanting this for several years, I finally bit at the $17.95 price. Much appreciation for the tip. Quote
tranemonk Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 thanks for the heads - up... I was always interested in it... Quote
BeBop Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 How much is shipping? $5.95 in the US. Also sales tax, at least in some places. Quote
ghost of miles Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 It came to $25 total, but still a grand bargain. Quote
Dave James Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Chris, Yes, thanks for the heads up. I was sorely tempted by this set when it first came out even at the full price. This is an amazing bargain. As close to giving something away as you can get. I'm a big WWII buff so reading through the issues from the war years is going to be a real experience. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 I received the email yesterday as well. Chris, as someone familiar, does the set show all the page art as well? Not just the cartoons but wondering if the sketches and covers are displayed in a decent way? Worth it for all the Ballietts! thanks. Quote
Christiern Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) It shows every bit of every page. Nothing left unscanned. Edited March 11, 2010 by Christiern Quote
bertrand Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Pun intended? Thanks for the tip - ordered this right away. I had attended a jazz forum lecture on Jutta Hipp last night, and apparently Whitney Balliett did a feature on her in the New Yorker in 1956. Now I will be able to read it. Bertrand. Quote
Big Wheel Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 How easy is it to search through the archives? I currently use the archive on newyorker.com - is this better than what you can see there? Quote
Christiern Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 The search feature could use improvement, but it works on key words, departments, authors, etc. it will ask you to insert the pertinent disc. You can also browse through all the issues by cover, eyc. I have always found what I was looking for. Could it be more intuitive? Definitely, but it does a nice job and the software automatically looks for updates when you start it up. Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Wow, was not aware of these kind of products existed, would love to see the same with jazz or cinéma magazine and why not some sports magazine like Sports Illustrated or the Ring. Quote

Man with the Golden Arm Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) thanks for the screen shots Chris ... I see they offer a companion DVD that fills to '09 I believe. an aside - my favorite of all cover artists has a big new book of his own - worth every penny too. http://www.peterdeseve.com/ refreshing the opening page allows flash animations of thumbnail to sketch to pencil to finish of some of his illustrations and covers. mellowT Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks for the tip, Chris. I ordered today. $26 with sales tax to CA. (Guess they have a shipping warehouse here.) I've often thought about starting up a regular membership. This will do just fine for the time being. Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Wow, was not aware of these kind of products existed, would love to see the same with jazz or cinéma magazine and why not some sports magazine like Sports Illustrated or the Ring. It exists for Rolling Stone magazine (I know, it's not much of a magazine anymore, and hasn't been for a long, long time). I'd guess there are similar products for other magazines as well. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Too bad the export shipping is over $40.. Quote
Harold_Z Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 I just ordered. Too good a price not to! Thanks for posting this Chris. Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Too bad the export shipping is over $40.. Do you mean, they charge 40 $ for only shippings or with the shipping fees the whole thing comes down to 40 $ ? In any case with 7 bucks in shipping fees I thought I had it bad . Quote
king ubu Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) 35.90$ for me (that is, 18 for the DVD-rom, 18 for shipping) - just got me one, thanks Chris! Edited March 13, 2010 by king ubu Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Almost 20 $ for shipping CD-Roms, are they crossing the ocean by swimming. Quote
