My vote is for Lansing and we get to hear Organissimo play.

Well we'd have to have a private concert for y'all because we do not get any gigs in Lansing. We play in Grand Radpis (1 hr. west of Lansing), Ann Arbor (1 hr. east of Lansing), Holland (1 1/2 hrs. from Lansing) etc. But no gigs in Lansing.

Lansing is dull. Great place to raise kids (nothing happens)... not a good place for artists.

A private concert would be terrific in Lansing, Jim. At Joe's place of course (with guns! )

Hey conn, what's with the "with guns"? I am at a disadvantage, since nobody else has to cross the Northernmost border, from the wilds of Canada, where oddlly enough, everyone doesn't have guns.

I, on the other hand do, as I mentioned earlier, so, if you are a moose, or a target, watch out.

I like the idea of Organissimo playing, just for us though. I'd be willing to go to Lansing, or wherever that could be arranged, if it could be arranged.

It's not uncommon for like-minded folks to congregate somewhere for a specific purpose, as part of a larger travel plan, including the gathering in that larger plan.

Like Ed, I have no knowledge of the area at all, so I agree that the spirit of the hang was to hear the band and get together as a group and meet each other.

Wouldn't it be a whole heckuva lot more fun to hear the band play in front of a real audience at the Chicago Jazz Festival, if they get the spot?

I totally agree with this, and it would give me a great excuse to go to the festival and take my wife to Chicago - she's been begging to go there ever since we moved to the Midwest. ;)

I had not bothered to read the whole thread and was just responding to Jim's comment about gig locations.

No doubt that if Organissimo gets a gig at the Chicago Jazz Festival that would be THE place to be. I've personally been wanting to visit Chicago for a long long time and would love to catch them there during a visit.

So, what say we suspend judgement and planning pending the Chicago Jazz Fest.'s decision?

All who agree say "aye".

The motion carries. ;):P

I see no reason to rush things, Dan, so I go along with that. I don't particularly want to go to a Jazz festival as I'll be bringing my family and have to spend time with them.

If we go see Oranissimo at a nightclub then that's fine. It's an evening and that's fine.

I would want to revisit the Chicago Art Institute. The problem with big cities is that there are a lot of other distractions, and the agenda would become full of other activities. The "get together" concept would not be served. We'd all get together for a couple of hours then all disappear to see other things in the city.

This is a get together for board members, not a group tour. That's my opinion anyway.

Now that St. Louis has been eliminated, you embrace another city. Your opposition to Lansing is palpable, my friend.

Carrying over a joke from another thread.

I don't own a gun, Patty, and wouldn't know how to shoot one. Well, I guess i could figure it out, but my aim wouldn't be very good and I'd be afraid of the loud bang.

Paul, if Lansing were a city of any significance, I wouldn't be opposed.

The point is to justify a trip by making the trip worthwhile in a number of ways. I think people are more likely to make a trip of 500 or 1500 miles under those circumstances than to go to some backwater for a day or two. And who says we have to split off to do other things? If we go to St. Louis, I can imagine a pack of Organissimos raiding the blues/jazz record show or attending the movies or lectures, or going to O'Connells for burgers. Or for that matter, a group of us might want to join you at the Chicago Art museum.

No one says that socializing begins and ends in a bar.

And by the way, St. Louis has hardly been eliminated. Its being held in abeyance pending the decision of the Chicago Jazz Festival, just as Lansing is.

Well, Dan, the only thing I can request from you is that you be open to whichever town/city that wins out (and that includes Lansing!)

For my part, I will also be open and will attempt to meet wherever the majority wants.

In the meantime, you started the poll, and you see the results. St. Louis has apparently been defeated. If you didn't want to go by majority, then you shouldn't have started the poll.

St. Louis is now out of the picture. It's now Lansing or Chicago.

13 to 12 and the vote is now concluded?

Give me a break.

Whew. That's a relief. We Canadians are actually a peaceful people and ownership of my firearms was hereditory, and both are registered. :) They were my father's. Yes, I can use both, but don't and haven't for decades. So, fear not.

As for the apparant shift toward Chicago, the majority is still to be heard from. I am still in the Lansing camp and would rather go to a specific one or two day deal, to see the band and meet the Organissimo board members. So, no surprise, I'm still for Lansing.

And B-3, with all of us there, Lansing will become much more lively, at least for a couple of days. Hide your booze and women and take the kids off the streets!! :excited::excited:

Going to Chicago or to St Louis for the events there is another thing, I would think.

The fistival...

Must be some kind of a slugfest?

:g

I think the Fistival is something that happens at pornfests.

Or, as they'd say on Seinfeld, "a fistivus for the wrist of us"...

As for the topic at er...hand, might I point out that Chicago has the best damned sub sandwiches this side of Rigel? (Of course, to be honest, I don't see this Californian making it; just thought I'd bring that up!)

(You've got to wonder about someone who edits for a spelling error, and yet leaves that lame joke...)

The poll was flawed from the start due to incomplete information-no one knew that Chicago would turn out to be an option because the band might play the Festival.

It was also flawed because I did not include the specifics of when St. Louis would be most attractive-the week of the IAJRC convention.

So, hold your horses, Paul and stay tuned.
