PHILLYQ Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 I have no connection to the seller, but someone has the Plugged Nickel set on sale at Hoffman for a pretty low price. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Sounds similar to restrictions on Dreamboard. Quote

Actually, a rule like that has its advantages: it keeps people away whose only intention is to sell stuff and who aren't interested in discussing anything. Edited October 24, 2011 by J.A.W. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Yeah, I never did get my set from the Sony shop - order canceled and "unavailable" - so hopefully a not-insanely-high-priced one will come around at some point. Quote
bertrand Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 You mean a real bootleg, not like that thing Sony is peddling that is not really a boot Quote
colinmce Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 No, more like the cheap repressing of the Billie Holiday Columbia box. Quote

That issue was argued quite a bit at the time of the BNBB and maybe here too when the Org Board started. I think it's worked out fine here, and to the benefit of the members, who are able to buy (or not) items they might otherwise miss. That's what the Looking For and Selling thread is for. As long as the seller is not a nuisance, or completely off -interest, I don't see the harm. And some may end up in the discussions. In any event, Hoffman has the right to set its own rules, but I'm not surprised they opt for lots of control, limited access, and tight posting requirements. Reflects their attitude, starting with adulation of their leader, which I still find cult-like Quote

Hot Ptah Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I mean no specific criticism of anyone on this thread, but I wish that we could all get past sniping at other boards. We have a great board here and can be happy and secure with that. There is no need to make negative remarks about other boards, in my humble opinion. Whenever I see the mere mention of another music board here, I always think, "O.K., here come the snide remarks, rolling out like usual." Quote

I'm active on both boards and enjoy what I read on each. Quote

Enough has been said about other boards here. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Plus another 1, HP. I've certainly been guilty of this, and will reign myself in. In fact, there are members of many other boards here in this community. Quote
peterintoronto Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 I recall this box being available on Amazon, CD Universe, etc. six months ago and never bit the bullet. Are they all gone again? Was it re-pressed, or was some dead stock found somewhere a la the Joe Henderson box and the Art Pepper Galaxy box? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Dead stock, I believe. I don't think there were as many copies out there recently as we'd thought/hoped. Quote
Tjazz Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Why not buy the Plugged Nickel direct from the Miles Davis website? $99.99 Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Our member Mr. Thornton tried that and didn't receive a set. Quote
vinyltim Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) So is there a weird bootleg version of this box, or are they all legit? Edited November 2, 2011 by vinyltim Quote
