I have never quite got around to getting these because I just don't know which source is best, or if there is such a thing as a definitive source for this stuff. Lonehill put out a CD collecting all of it, but this is hard to get ahold of now. Suggestions?

Hell, while we're at it can we untangle the European live recordings, too? What all is there, what CDs are duplications, etc. I've always been remarkably confused by this.

These 1962 and 1963 recordings weren't even in the public domain in the European Union when Lonehill released them; maybe they were in Andorra, where Lonehill is officially based. Anyway, I have the 2 Fuel 2000 (that's the name of the label) CDs that were released by Universal in 2001 and 2002, Conversations and Iron Man. They were licensed from the owners of the rights.

Just checked Amazon U.S. and U.K., but they seem to have vanished.

I originally had the Iron Man LP on Douglas Records and part of the other album on the Everest Archive of Folk & Jazz, under Dolphy's name but actually including tracks by Cannonball & Jug.

Conversations first issued on Alan Douglas' FM label. The original issue of Iron Man on Douglas was gold.

This is how I first got them. I now have a boxed version of the 2 Fuel 2000 cds titled This Is.

Everything on the Lonehill Jazz "Complete Memorial Album Sessions" is now available on a couple of Jazz World releases at a pretty cheap price on Amazon:

I suspect they're just copies of the Lonehill Jazz release.

I regretted it almost instantly when I sold my Douglas 2-LP set. I think I was thinking about how nice it would be to program the tracks of the CDs in different ways - to get all the quintet tracks together, for instance. I replaced the records with the separate CDs of Iron Man and Conversations that came out in 2001/2002 on Fuel 2000/Varese Sarabande. They sound pretty good and purport to be legally licensed - I hope that's true.

The Lonehill itself was a copy, as they didn't have access to the original sources.

Ah, maybe I'll play with that on Spotify...

Still have those two originals.

FM cover (non-laminated) was designed by Frank Gauna

The Douglas vinyl had laminated front and back covers!

Both carried the same photo of Dolphy on their back covers. The one that was on the front of the Douglas LP.

I used to have the Jitterbug Waltz two lp set, that was my first Dolphy outside of Mingus recordings. Now I have the two cd box set that Chuck has. Just revisited it this week. Very vivid sound.
