Head Man Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) For those who like vinyl AND free jazz, this looks very tasty: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_ipg=200&item=321148088751&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_ssn=mourning_warbler&_sop=1 Edited June 27, 2013 by Head Man Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Yeah, my friend Dante's stash. He's liquidating. Quote
colinmce Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 I'd wish your friend good luck, but he doesn't need it. I might try to throw down on Gardens of Harlem but won't get my hopes up. Had no idea about that Charles Moffett Savoy. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Gardens of Harlem is an excellent date - and can be found affordably, just probably not in this particular auction. The Charles Moffett Savoy LP is great! It was also released on CD in Japan. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Yes, I have the cd, that Moffett is a good one. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 It's a nice collection with definitely at least 4 or 5 monsters. I really want the Michael Cosmic lp but it's already past my price point of $500! If he had the Black Unity Trio lp for auction too then I'd really be sweating as that's my other top want which I'll probably never get for my maximum limit of $500... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) I've got one of these, but had no idea it was worth much (though certainly an interesting date, definitely)... http://www.ebay.com/itm/DYANI-TEMIZ-FEZA-Music-For-Xaba-LP-on-UK-Sonet-Free-Jazz-/221244104420?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item33832d1ee4 Edited June 28, 2013 by Rooster_Ties Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Honestly, only a few of these records are really "hard-core scarce," the others are just being driven up in price by association/provenance. Quote
mjazzg Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Yes, I wondered about that too. There's a least a couple where the current bid is beyond the Discogs price that you see quite regularly. I think it's interesting how the auction psychology works against folk checking prices from other sources, Still, wouldn't mind owning a fair few of these - lottery win pending Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 Yeah, I had the Heliopolis and was bored by it so turned it around for $500. It's nice to have that option sometimes. I put in some sniping software to "take it there" on a few of the Japanese LPs but I think they'll go insane. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 Agreed Clifford; a friend of mine once owned a mint copy of that "Heliopolis" album and made me an audiophile grade CD of it and I was quite underwhelmed. This was well over 10 years ago and once every few years I'll dig up that CD to make sure I did not miss anything and each time my assessment remains the same...a cool artifact yes but rather lackluster music. Beware some of those Japanese titles in this auction are reissues...namely "independence" by Takayanagi and "we now create" by Togashi. Quote
colinmce Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 If I thought *I* could get $45-50 for my Noah Howard At Judson Hall I might sell it. Quote

I'd buy a CD reissue just to have it around but it's not worth keeping a lackluster $500 album! Indeed, IIRC even with a green label, the original of that Togashi is with a gatefold. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 I'd buy this one just for the cover.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/G-L-UNIT-Orangutang-LP-on-Odeon-Rare-Swedish-Free-Jazz-/221244105560?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item33832d2358 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 It's an amazing record and I got it for far less than what it's at currently (probably in better shape, too). Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 That GL unit record is cool...can't remember what I bought mine for years ago but probably around $75.... I wish that Michael cosmic lp wasn't so crazy hard to find...it's weird how quite a few copies of "creator spaces" have popped up on eBay in the last year or 2 though...thankfully I at least have that one... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 I think I paid $40 for an M- Creator Spaces years ago... it remains a favorite. The Cosmic about broke the bank but I was glad to find a crisp copy in the last year. It's very good. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 What did you pay for your Cosmic? I think at this point I'd happily pay $500 for a copy but this will probably never happen on eBay! Quote
JSngry Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Was $41.00 too much for the Ran Blake ESP? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Yeah. That auction was pure comedy. I got outbid on all but one of the heavy Japanese titles I bid on (Mort A Credit, Origination, The Masterpiece, both Oki Itarus). The Michael Cosmic fetched 1800 bucks - I'll gladly sell mine for less than that! Quote
colinmce Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Jim, I got a copy of the Blake for $11 on eBay last week. Quote
JSngry Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 I've never had good luck on the Blake, always get outbid, so put in a semi-serious bid fully expecting to get outbid at the end, but didn't. One guy went up to 40. My bid was 41. Guess I shoulda put in a max of 39.99! Oh well, I overpaid. I'm glad to have it at last. sometimes "good luck" just means being willing to overpay. Preparation meeting opportunity, as it was. Seems like bad luck to me, but..whatever gets it, I guess. Hopefully The Blue Potato will not be so resistant to sanity the next time it comes along. That's another one that has yet to like my bids and might need to be money-whipped into surrender... Quote
colinmce Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 I've never found Blue Potato to be a stretch. I got mine for about $8. Just a matter of it showing up. I've been pretty focused on my complete Ran Blake collection lately and have most of the rarer/pricier ones out of the way (the two Horos, the ESP, Blue Potato). I'm about to go to the mats on both volumes of Painted Rhythms. The private press Take 1 & Take 2 LPs are the real tough cookies. As far as the whole shebang of 40ish titles, I'm a bit over half way. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 It's $41 versus, say, $30. Not that big of a deal. Hell, I'd like a near mint copy and that one looked nice. It's not like you paid $600 for a $20 reissue or some similar boner move. Quote
