I just ordered a copy of this CD, another Verve compilation of MGM recordings - AFAIK only two tracks overlap.

A Mosaic box of his MGM sessions would have been a good deed.

How much of that one is Mercury, vs MGM?

Clifford Jordan: Bearcat

Dexter took the melody of "Junco Partner" and called it "Soul Sister". Clifford did the same thing here and called it "You Better Leave It Alone".  James Wayne, or Champion Jack Dupree ("Junker's Blues") should have sued their asses, though Bob Shad took credit for writing the song on Wayne's version, so Wayne wouldn't have gotten anything from a lawsuit.
As Hunter S. Thompson wrote, “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”

Yeah, well, some guy thought that Rosemary Clooney & Bing Crosby were better fits. Go figure.

Also, they had MGM/Mercury, & Roulette at their disposal. Don't know how much of that has already been reissued as single discs, though. Still, at some point, I'd think it could have been done? And either way, still no trace of this:

and i think there's enough loose ends that somebody should do something, only who cares now, right?

Kenny Kirkland - S/T (Verve, originally GRP)
Kirkland's only session as a leader.  A pity that he left us so young.

Saw him in performance as part of Sting's group in 1989 @London....

All tracks were recorded for MGM, and only two are also on the Verve double CD.

There were at least three of the Roulette Lps on CD, süme with previously unreleased bonus tracks. Is there no Eckstine thread?

Well then!

Looked in vain for a "real" Eckstine thread a few weeks ago when I was binging. I thought there would be.

And I think that 3 is all the Roulettes there were?

They went to high school together with tenor man Eddie Johnson.

I did not know that.  Reading the very small print on the reproduction of the back album cover for Sentimental & Melancholy included on this CD I found this:  Both teamed musically for the first time at Joe's thirteenth birthday party when he publicly gave his first solo performance accompanied by Jimmy on the five string banjo.
