jazzbo Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Stark Reality "Acting Thinking Feeling" Not Now Records Disc 1 Early recordings of the late John Abercrombie Quote
JSngry Posted December 27, 2017 Author Report Posted December 27, 2017 I'd never listened to this, didn't see the purpose and/or need, but bought a used copy cheap after Bob died, just because. Still didn't listen to it until today, and it's actually kinda fun. The more popular the song, the more the expectations of "Carole King fans" are met, but for the less-familiar songs, all bets are off except that you can bet that Bob would not be bashful about referencing all the "electric jazz" of the 70s, Example - "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" sounds like a stealth mélange of Gary McFarland and "It's About That Time" with Stephon Harris going full-on Bobby Hutcherson before bringing it back in., but "Way Over Yonder" gets totally "Big Fun"-ish. It's Bob working the system, musical commentary under the guise of product. Not going to be for everybody, but I'm lauging/smiling my way through the whole thing. Hi. Bob! Quote

Peter Friedman Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 A lovely CD. This is the only recording by Brownlow I have been able to find. Quote
Bluesnik Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 I know Manfredo Fest from the sixties, but not from such a late vintage. Quote

BillF Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 (Bop must be older than I thought. I see AllMusic is attributing "Godchild" from this one to "George Washington"! ) Quote
jazzbo Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Robertinho Silva "Shot on Goal" Milestone Records cd. Quite an interesting disc for a fan of Brazilian drumming like me. Quote
Niko Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 a day of traveling (home from christmas) and changing trains means a day of passing by records stores I hadn't visited in a while... just in: Marocco/Pizzi - The Trio [the mild irony is that the third trio member, Joey Baron, is by far the biggest name at this point in human history] Al Hood - Hein van de Geijn - Steve Clover - Spheres [Seattle visits the Southern Netherlands] Quote
