I’m sure his essay for the Joy Marshall CD will be equally enlightening too - given that she features in the Tubby Hayes bio that he authored. I look forward to reading it.

Same here ....

I need to listen to that more. Maybe it's the mix, but I always have trouble understanding what's going on.

Glad it isn't just me. A case of less than the sum of its considerable parts for me

At the right time, try to sit back, relax, close your eyes, and listen. You'll probably be rewarded.

Ahmed Abdullah and the Solomonic Quintet (Silkheart)

that Ahmed Abdullah album is such a nice surprise - took it with me recently because you just can't let a Silheart CD lie around for 2 Euros... forgot about it for a few months and now had the hunch that this might just be the perfect music for, well, right now - and it is... wish that would happen more often.

Yeah, that was my impression, too.

It's probably a headphone job or else listen on an ultra high end system to help separate the sounds of the different instruments. I find playing loud achieves a similar outcome 😀

Excellent Tubbs on this one. Sound is a tad rough but only adds to the urgency of the music. I'm a dilettante when it comes to Tubbs but this is a good one even for the only partially committed
