I hadn't listened to this in many years and was thinking of selling it, which would have been a big mistake! The Trance is a captivating piece; almost puts you into a trance. Parts of it sound very mid Eastern, at least to me. Quote

This is definitely an influence - the major reason for this is Reggie Workman (replacing here regular Richard Davis) who sounds like playing an enlarged Oud .... Quote

I love this one, too - so atmospheric. My listening pile today: Rowles has such a unique way of approaching familiar tunes in surprising ways - "Stars and Stripes Forever" here is hilarious! More of a Jazzland All Stars disc ,,, Is it just me, or is Billy Higgins rather low in the mix? Edited May 29, 2018 by mikeweil Quote

Thanks for the heads-up on that, jlhoots. I'll have to check it out. Vinding has made some excellent records. His trio record on Storyville, Open Minds -- with Jean-Michel Pilc and Billy Hart -- is outstanding too. NP: Edited May 30, 2018 by HutchFan Quote
