Justin V Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 I saw the small-group part of a Kenn Cox tribute a few years ago in Detroit. I couldn't see the whole set because I had to be at another stage, but bassist Ron Brooks still sounded great. I'd like to see him again. Quote

gmonahan Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 Listening to the Porgy and Bess disc from this foundational set  Quote
jcam_44 Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) Started the morning with Chad Taylor/Brian Settles and Neil Podgurski - The Daily Biological. Its fantastic and easily a favorite release of this year. followed with: Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah - Axiom music is excellent but the sound quality has left me a little cold.  Edited September 28, 2020 by jcam_44 Quote
jazzbo Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 Teddi King "Now In Vogue (Plus Miss Teddi King and Round Midnight)" Storyville/Muzak Japan 2 cd set. I like this material better than her later material. . . . Quote
Bluesnik Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 An album I keep returning to often lately. But I have it with the back cover of the booklet, which is Andy Warhol's cover of Vol.2, as the cover. So with this one: 1 hour ago, Peter Friedman said: That one is really nice. I have it as a Japanese miniLP from Bethlehem, I think. Quote

HutchFan Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 Continuing a recent Illinois Jacquet kick with: Illinois Jacquet - The Man I Love (Black & Blue, rec. 1973) Compiles 9 of the 12 tracks originally released on two Black & Blue LPs: Illinois Jacquet with Wild Bill Davis and Illinois Jacquet with Wild Bill Davis. Vol. 2 Potent stuff!  Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 My favorite Jacquet disc on Black & Blue is the Midnight Slows recording. AFIK it hasn't been on cd. Great ballad album with Hank Jones, George Duvivier and J C Heard. Quote

That same quartet -- Jacquet with Hank Jones, Duvivier, and J.C. Heard -- made God Bless My Solo for Black & Blue. It's excellent too; it's the Jacquet record that I chose for inclusion in my 70s jazz survey.  Quote
Justin V Posted September 29, 2020 Report Posted September 29, 2020 I've seen Rava once with his Tribe group but never Bollani, who is also brilliant. Quote
