Listened to Bobby Hutcherson's Head On (CD with 40+ minutes of bonus material) tonight.  This one should be talked about more, on of his most ambitious and best IMHO.

It was recorded in 1968 by which time Hawes had modified his style considerably.

For me the classics remain the three Contemporary 1955-56 albums:

The album on Black Lion is a strong favorite, but I may slightly prefer this one on MPS/SABA. The 3 early albums on Contemporary are certainly very good, but I find he digs in a bit deeper on the Black Lion and MPS sessions.
