It's a live recording which gives the band plenty of room. There's only 5 tracks, but the shortest track is 12 minutes long. Now playing: Lots of stellar talent represented there, but my vote for MVP of this compilation goes to Houston Person for this beauty -- Quote

Gheorghe Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 Though I am from Austria, I bought this one at a shopping Mall in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Great allstar thing. I think it was the next album after "Sidewinder", maybe Sidewinder became a bit too popular for me, so I prefer to listen to this one, though Sidewinder sure is fantastic..... Quote

He was a solid bassist and would have earned a place in this band even without nepotism. He wasn't a creative player or an improvisor, but he laid down a solid beat which was perfectly suited for the era and setting in which he played. He is joined here by George Van Eps on rhythm guitar, but I think I like his later pairing with Allan Reuss even better. Yes! Exactly. I find Allan Reuss to be the best rhythm guitarist of that period. That Goodman rhythm section swung! Quote
