And what also is noticably different is the recording placement of Tony and Herbie, which draws one's attention to them in part because they are usually recorded in a mirror image to the listeners' perspective. Each of these compositions are portraits in a new way in Miles' work. "Country Son" I sometimes think of as a piece reflecting Coltrane. Tony is a bit Elvin in spots and Herbie is very very "on."
