:tup My favorite Evans recording. I spoke with Ryan Truesdell after a concert in Toronto several years ago and discovered that it was his, too.

Yes, in the running for favourite, along with this;

all that jazz: Hampton Hawes - Trio And Quartet 1951-56 - Live & Studio Sessions

I don't have much Hawes, but this is easily what I like most. In trio or quartet, with only on the first session with Lawrence Marable.

Yes, a great Hawes collection there.

Now playing:

I absolutely love Joe Thomas on Russian Lullaby from this disc.

This was my first time listening to this material and I really loved it all (well, the orchestra piece a little less so). Will definitely listen again soon.

I don't know how I oversaw All night session, but it maybe my preferred Hawes, with Jim Hall

Gonzalo Rubalcado Trio "Diz"

MI0000059382.jpg?partner=allrovi.com

A very modern take on bebop tunes in trio form. Nice to have Ron on bass!

Bass – Ron Carter
Drums – Julio Barreto
Piano, Producer – Gonzalo Rubalcaba

How is this one? I've skipped over it a few times in the used bins but have wondered how big of a mistake that is.

Well worth the $2 I paid for it used!  Seems like a nice overview of that Gramavision period, with which I'm otherwise unfamiliar.  Nothing earth-shattering on first listen, but I enjoyed it enough to put it in my second-spin-before-filing pile.

Nice, good to hear that.

Harris Eisenstadt - drums, compositions
Michael McGinnis - clarinet
Jason Mears - alto saxophone
Sara Schoenbeck - bassoon
Mark Taylor - french horn
Brian Drye - trombone
Jay Rozen - tuba
Jonathan Goldberger - electric guitar
Garth Stevenson - acoustic bass

That's a fine listen
