HutchFan Posted April 3, 2022 Report Posted April 3, 2022 I listened to these 3 albums while drafting their entries for my 80s jazzblog: Quote
HutchFan Posted April 3, 2022 Report Posted April 3, 2022 Next up: Sarah Vaughan with Michel Legrand (Mainstream, 1972) Legrand's arrangements oscillate between the extremes of intensely baroque and just-too-damn-much. I wish he would've throttled it back, if only a little -- because Sassy sounds divine and the songs suit her. 11 minutes ago, JSngry said: How about that 1976. Lateef's best record of the 1970s, I think. Quote
JSngry Posted April 3, 2022 Author Report Posted April 3, 2022 Part of the Search and Ten Years Hence are at least every bit as interesting for me. Quote

JSngry Posted April 4, 2022 Author Report Posted April 4, 2022 IIRC, this was the first record where Sonny had a mike hooked up/on to the bell of his horn so he could walk around while he recorded. Of course, you would hear pad noise and other odd sounds, but oh well. It seems to have unleashed him in the studio that hadn't happened in a loooooong time. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) Plastic Dogs - Ivert Why does jazz metal always have to sound like this? Edit: Correction. They self-describe as "jazzcore". The suffix of death. Edited April 4, 2022 by Rabshakeh Quote
