CD compiles both Bolivia and Under Fire.  For me, a desert-island disc.

One of my all time favourites. So I didn´t know anything about any religion, this music has a very moving quality for me. I cannot and could not listen to such stuff every day, since I have to study more what will be played, but if I have the time and the patience, I love to listen to it. Love the sound of it !

I heard that Carl Saunders passed away last night. R.I.P. A wonderful musician and trumpet player, jazz and/or lead (Bill Holman Band). This is a very fine recording.

Very sorry to hear this sad news - RIP. Very versatile player - didn’t he start out on Mellophonium? News such as this is pretty depressing as I always thought of him as a key West Coast ‘keeper of the flame’.

Red Norvo Combo - Vibes a la Red (Famous Door, rec. 1974/75)
I'm especially partial to Side A of this album.  Hearing Norvo play with Papa Jo Jones is a gas!

I dig Red Norvo's albums.

Yes, Carl wanted to join the Kenton Band as a trumpet player, but only a mellophonium chair was open, so he accepted it. I believe the mouthpieces on those horns are quite similar. Then went back to trumpet after a couple of years with Kenton.

Versatile? For sure. I find his lead playing on this CD to be outstanding.
