The OG cover very much reflected the corporate transitions that were going on That's interesting. I have the CD release, and the cover has that Pacific Jazz logo in the upper-left corner. So it's a bit of revisionist history on the part of Universal and/or producer Michael Cuscuna, eh? Liberty was in an acquisitive mood back then: Blue Note and Solid State and Pacific Jazz. I guess they were flush with cash. NP: Marlene VerPlanck Loves Johnny Mercer (Audiophile, 1978) Edited March 12, 2023 by HutchFan Quote

That was a bit of a fluid time for all the labels in that family - and the label's labels! I mean, was this one World Pacific Jazz or Pacific Jazz? And whatever happened to plain old World Pacific? They say in the liner notes that the discographically known unissued material was nowhere to be found and is considered lost. Edited March 13, 2023 by mikeweil Quote

I still maintain that people who haven't heard/didn't get to hear a real live REAL Big Band have no idea of how much physical impact the sheer sound of it would make. It could pin you on your ass and not let you back up. And without making your ears bleed. I heard the Herman band with Jake Hanna on drums in a club in Montreal and it was as you describe. I once danced right in front of the stage to a local band called Manteca at the El Mo in Toronto and thought they might blow me off the floor but without hurting my ears. Whereas for some reason when rock bands are too loud I need ear plugs but they still don't give me that lift. Quote

This one was a "must have" among the jazz freaks in my high school class (I think it was shortly before the "bac" in 1978 and one guy had it and we all came together to listen to it and make cassette tapes.... Just fantastic, and that incredible live version of "Red Clay", also a favourite album / composition among us youngsters... Quote
