I do have good original LPs of both of those titles - and the Tone Poet of 'Dialogue'. Not played them for a while but it is swings and roundabouts I think. There would likely be higher fidelity but possibly at the expense of somebsurface noise. At the end of the day it will probably depend on your LP and/or CD playback equipment but what I am finding with the Mosaic is that it is more than adequate and noise-wise dead quiet. A great set - the people who gave taken over CD mastering at Mosaic are doing a brilliant job.

Thank you

Sometimes I think that whoever owns the LRC label these days keeps changing the covers to try to fake out buyers into re-buying titles they already have. :)

Benny Golson Quartet, Primary, 1 of 5

Benny Golson Quartet, Primary, 1 of 2

I have seen Benny Golson very often live. His early compositions are great. Maybe he is not really my idea of a soloist on Saxophone, maybe the sound, maybe his phrasing, but to have a horn player with THAT Rhythmsection, I think I´d listen to it somewhere.

Bird was a big influence of my musical thinking, even if due to my age I didn´t hear music chronologically, that means I would have discovered Bird after I was into the styles of music of the late 60´s early 70´s. The first time I read Bird´s name was when there appeared a super Mingus triple record in Paris 1970 or 71, which had a take "Parkeriana".

But listenig to a simple tune like Billies Bounce or more even, Now´s the time so many times one after the other, is just torture for me. I have a Prestige album of Wardell Gray that also has so may tracks.

Woke up to -11 degrees. I have to do a bit of running around today. . . going to be careful! Fiona the dachshund has decided she is NOT going out.

Listening to a cd that arrived yesterday from cdjapan, Chet Baker “Live in Japan 1986 Sendai VOL. 1” Timeless Records/Solid Records Japan cd

Sound is good, not great–sounds best to me with Phase “Reversed” on my DAC.

Following up with another one in from cdjapan.

The distortion on the master tape is a bit annoying. I have LP burns of the mono volumes that sound better (from the days when I was trading music cdrs with drummer Danny D’Imperio).

It's good. It's probably not essential if you have other 1986 Chet recordings, but I really have come to love late Chet and this and Vol. 2 I am glad to add.
