jazzbo Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Starting off a fairly warm morning–36 degrees–with a bit of Brazilian breeze, Eliane Elias “Dance of Time” Concord cd. Ms Elias is such a fine piano player. And this is a very modern recording, full and rich. I had a nice dinner last night with the older of my two brothers who is undergoing a crisis I have the experience to help him with–I admit it was nice to be the older brother giving advice and a listening ear. jazzbo Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Miles in France – Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8 disc 5 Perhaps not the greatest sound but very listenable, and the music is . . . riveting, for me. This disc is with Wayne Shorter from October 1964. 200×200 7.78 KB Quote

Gheorghe Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 14 hours ago, Holy Ghost said: Yeah, good luck! Forget the nightlight, this dude will keep you up all night. Easy chair McLean is rare, but if you want to try to take it easy with Jackie, Swing, Swang, Swingin' may be his sleepiest, but I'm still on edge; I still want to know every note he plays! With that, have a good night, my friend. Now: The Fabulous Fats Navarro, Vol. 1. Japanese Mini LP RVG. Both volumes, Japanese Mini RVG's Well "Swing Swang Swingin´" is interesting for the tunes if I remember it right: I think I got the idea to play "Let´s Face the Music and Dance" just from that source. That tune is so strong with the alterations from minor key to major key. The original version from the 40´s is slower, but it´s always important to know the original source to get your own brand of playing it. The Fats Navarro Blue Not I bought in the mid 70´s when there where those Double LP sets , I had one with Monk, and one with Fats. I remember only that I was pissed of there is always two versions of one and the same song. Here it´s early evening now, I slowly get things settled.... 21 hours ago, Kevin Bresnahan said: Is Kirk still playing? He turns 88 in two weeks, so I would not be shocked to hear he has stopped playing. How says that Dexter Song (written by Cables who had the piano chair before Ligthsey came in) ? "I told you so" 😄 Kirk Lightsey looks wonderful and plays wonderful and was 2 weeks ago here in town, and in 2024 also. He played mostly Wayne Shorter tunes and I met him after the gig and we talked about 15 minutes about music, what else ? Quote

BFrank Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Been listening to this singer lately. I really like what she does with her voice and her songs. This is how she describes herself, but I would say she's more like McRae than any of those others. Far too many new singers try to emulate Ella and Sarah, so it's nice to hear one who doesn't. [Singer Vanisha Gould was inspired by artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Joni Mitchell, Carmen McRae and Ella Fitzgerald, she has successfully curated her own sound as a composer and band leader. Performing originals and music from the Great American Songbook on stages both in New York and overseas, she aspires to continue sharing her voice with audiences in New York and beyond.] Quote

jazzbo Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 (edited) This one doesn’t seem to be so out of place following the Sutton. It has been too long since I brought some energetic Tania Maria music into my room. I love this woman! What a talent!
