John Lewis - Improvised Meditations & Excursions (Atlantic, 1959)
with either George Duvivier or Percy Heath (b) and Connie Kay (d)

One of John Lewis' best albums, IMO.

Sad to say I´m not a collector, I once purchased some Cedar Walton Trio with Cliff Jordan, and sure heard the later edition with Bob Berg, who was great, but I think I heard he died young.

The only low point was, when Berg joined the Miles Organisation in the late 80´s and poor Bob Berg didn´t have much to play in those bands. He just stood there for the most time, quite bored because the whole stuff was boring. He must have got much money for it, but sure it was nothing that would have inspired Bob. Gone were the days where great saxists like Liebman and then the young Bill Evans were in the bands.

I caught that Eastern Rebellion group with Berg on several occasions - he was great in that context.

Yes he was a perfect fit. Saw that band, too.

That's a great Mann record.

Right now

Earl Hines & Jimmy Rushing "Blues & Things" Master Jazz/New World cd

WOW. I forgot how great this disc is. Five masters who know what to do, and boy do they get it done. And the producer and engineer are right there with them, capturing all the nuances and presenting them to you gently, as if you were sitting fifteen feet away in awe.

Such a relaxed swing and careful yet happy delivery.

WOW.

I put this on when my parents are around. They hate music but this is something they'll tolerate for some reason. Just a great vibe. Another of those fantastic albums that shows just how arbitrary the dividing line between jazz and blues can be sometimes.
