He just stood there for the most time, quite bored because the whole stuff was boring. He must have got much money for it, but sure it was nothing that would have inspired Bob. Gone were the days where great saxists like Liebman and then the young Bill Evans were in the bands. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 I caught that Eastern Rebellion group with Berg on several occasions - he was great in that context. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Herbie Mann - Flautista! Â I find that Herbie Mann records have a roughly 20% hit rate, but the ones I like, I really like. Â Quote
jazzbo Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 That's a great Mann record. Right now Dexter Gordon Quartet "Live in Chateauvallon" Elemental Music disc 1 of 2 Nicely recorded at the Jazz Festival in '78. With George Cables, Rufus Reid and Eddie Gladden. Quote
JSngry Posted February 24, 2022 Author Report Posted February 24, 2022 Metamorphosen/Metamorphsis is something I keep coming back to. An amazing piece. Quote

jazzbo Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 "Chet Baker in Paris" box set of the Barclay Recordings, disc 1. I just adore the nine performances with Dick Twardzik; it's tragic we lost him so young. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Duke Ellington "Such Sweet Thunder" CBS France cd Quote
jazzbo Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Earl Hines & Jimmy Rushing "Blues & Things" Master Jazz/New World cd WOW. I forgot how great this disc is. Five masters who know what to do, and boy do they get it done. And the producer and engineer are right there with them, capturing all the nuances and presenting them to you gently, as if you were sitting fifteen feet away in awe. Such a relaxed swing and careful yet happy delivery. WOW. Quote

Another of those fantastic albums that shows just how arbitrary the dividing line between jazz and blues can be sometimes. Quote
