Rabshakeh Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 Barney Kessel – Bossa Nova Another record I assumed would be better than it is. So kitsch it could be a 90s band like the Cherry Popping Daddies overdoing it. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted August 26, 2023 Report Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) Ralph Lalama & His Manhattan All Stars – Feelin' And Dealin' First time listening to this one and I really knocked me out, which these Criss Crosses rarely do. I'd be interested to hear more about Lalama. There's not much out there in the internet. Edited August 26, 2023 by Rabshakeh Quote

It's an interesting body of work, including some later ones on other labels. Saw a performance at QEH which was quite unlike anything else I had heard then or since. Fascinating Quote

I forgot how good many of them are (although some are a bit snoozy). The decision to have the string players was a good one. What are the later ones that you're referring too? I mainly know the ECMs. 40 minutes ago, mjazzg said: Working through them? Actually, listening through a couple of Best of the 1990s lists from randoms on the internet. They show up a fair bit, along with the endless Keith Jarretts. Quote

Ties are gathering dust.. CD7 - What a great sounding set this is, way better than previous issues I’ve heard (including my old JATP LPs). Really captures the live atmosphere too. Quote
