This is a fantastic listen with this tight seasoned band: Cannon and Nat along with Yusef Lateef in the front line, with Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes.

Cannonball was really cooking in the 60s-70s. I don't understand why there haven't been any meaningful retrospective box sets or compilations of his work from this period.

I was re-reading some old correspondence with one of my University of Chicago friends about jazz (he’s one of the best pianists and guitarists I’ve ever befriended and had been a music professor at Yale, and is now a music professor at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor). So I decided it was time for some “Chicago Style” so to speak.

I read someone mentioning the Concord Maybeck Hall series of cds so I pulled a few out to revisit.

This one now: “Toshiko Akiyoshi at Maybeck” Concord cd

It’s very good.
