My OG LP of this is not in immaculate shape, and I found it hard to resist going for the “Wheels of Fire” Super Deluxe edition released last week.

This Cream 2 LP set was a favorite of my early growing fascination with music–especially the studio material which is rich and varied, full of then cool hip production and the very intriguing forms and sounds of “Pssing the time” and “As You Said.”

This new edition is pretty good, I’m listening to both versions of the studio material on disc 1 Mine is the Japanese SHM-CD edition, arrived from cdjapan today.

It´s strange I just purchased it as I am so fond of everything I have from late Trane with Alice, Pharoah and Rashied Ali, Alice´s own albums all of them, Pharoah Sanders as much and as often as i can, both Pharoah and Alice Coltrane.....

I have so deep emotions listening to this. It´s like a life large image of Trane, whom I consider almost a saint, like the before mentioned. 

So many emotions, so much love feeling in my soul.....hearing this......

Fascinating stuff, so forward looking!  A fair amount of strangeness mixed in ("The Clown", "Passions of a Man", etc.), but the high points are absolutely staggering!

One of my early favs, too. At first I wasn't going to bother, but I keep thinking I SHOULD get it. For now I'm hoping for some sort of sale, but I'll probably pick it up sooner or later, no matter what.

Great music from 1952 sessions.

Time for some Dead after a bit of time without listening to them. A nice-sounding show indeed, starting off quite mellow.

Not a bad record but surely one of the silliest gimmicks. 

I went to a recent gig that involved an electroacoustic glitch breakdown of her version of "Flamingo" from this record, over a projected home video of flying flamingos. It wasn't great, but I enjoyed Ms. McRae every time.

I've enjoyed this recording a long time. I think in general it works despite being gimmicky. . .it was par for the course in '59, not that unusual a premise for an album.
