Bright Moments Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWN%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWN%3AIT&rd=1 so here are my questions: Will I love them like I love my children? Did I overpay? Should I copy them to CDR's and never play the originals? Have I fallen down the rabbit hole? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Should I copy them to CDR's and never play the originals? Not a bad idea, especially if you ever play your CD's in the car, or if they otherwise occasionally get scratched with regular use. Can't hurt!! Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I've made copies of my mosaics and then I put the originals back in their boxes and up in a closet where they're safe from even the harmful rays of the sun. Quote
paul secor Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Congratulations on getting them. Play them and enjoy the music - that's what they're for. Hope that you have a good time listening. Quote
BFrank Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 The Thad Jones is a great set. It grows on you. So if your first impression is muted, repeated listenings will bring out the gems here. I have seen this one going for less, but then again, you would have to wait indefinitely. ENJOY! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Will I love them like I love my children? Did I overpay? Should I copy them to CDR's and never play the originals? Have I fallen down the rabbit hole? The answers... Almost. Who cares? You'll forget what you payed shortly anyway. Your choice; I don't, but mine don't leave the house. Oh, yessssss! Quote
BERIGAN Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Evan, if you don't like them, they are investments! Quote
Brad Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWN%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWN%3AIT&rd=1 so here are my questions: Will I love them like I love my children? Did I overpay? Should I copy them to CDR's and never play the originals? Have I fallen down the rabbit hole? Evan, You should love your children more but Mosaics are prized possessions. You certainly did not overpay. I think you got a good deal. It actually surprises me how little attention the Chaloff set gets. CDRs is not a bad idea (although I've never done that myself). If by falling down the Rabbit's hole, have you opened Pandora's box, or can you put the toothpaste back in the tube (or can I think of any more dumb cliches!)? The answer is YES! It's over dude. GA Russell Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I figure that comes to about 1.5 Mosaic CDs per week for four years! Do you have time to listen to anything else? Quote

As the father of a 13-year-old, trust me: that will end. Indeed, when they want listen to "Metallica" or "Motorhead" on you cd player... and this is only a very short time, after you tried in vain to teach them who were the Led Zeppelin, they will move towards Techno and DUB... a lost battle. On the positive side consider that you'll not have a bunch of drunked teenagers handling your records. Quote

mikeweil Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 How are your children? my baby (3 1/2) always asks me to put on some jazz music! Yeah, but keep the Mosaics out of reach for them - only handle them yourselves! Quote
Shrdlu Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I take it that the original two Mosaics were the Thad Jones BN set and the Serge Chaloff. (By the way, if you are into Serge, you must get "Blue Serge", with Sonny Clarke and Philly Joe.) You guys are right about the kids' interest in jazz soon fading. Funny thing is that I'm now into electro/house and trance bigtime, and my kids don't like THAT either!! So who's the old fogey in my house, lol? I mean, isn't that supposed to be for teens and 20s only? Ironically, two young guys in the clubs said to me "Wow, I wish MY Dad was into house." Quote
