"Freedom" was issued twice on LP in Japan and once on LP in America (2011, Music Matters). I like it myself--it's better than many Burrell dates that followed.

I wish they would at least make a DL of it available!

Many years ago, I would call Blue Note asking about certain titles and if they would ever come out on CD. One was Wayne Shorter's Etcetera. The person said they had a list of titles that would NEVER come out on CD (Etcetera was not on it). That was mysterious to say the least. What was on the list? Maybe a bunch of titles from the George Butler era?

Are there any Blue Notes that have never been on CD in any country? I am sure there are some. I am referring to titles that did exist on LP, not unissued dates.

It's an excellent session too -- with Larry Willis!

Mileston

Two great LP's that have mystifyingly never seen CD reissue:  Gary Bartz 'Home' on Milestone and Sonny Simmons 'Rumasuma' on Contemporary.

The Bartz probably has extra tracks and would be a nice 'complete' set that Zev or Cory Weeds could put out. I think I even pitched the idea to Cory. Working with Concord may be non-starter.

Why I think there are extra tracks: Gary said the recording was planned in advance by Milestone. The last time (Ellington) was a closer. So the tape machines had to be rolling the whole time. It was not a 40-minute concert.

I wish Blue Note would consider downloads but perhaps they are still concerned about artistic integrity.

I wish Left Bank tapes would come out as downloads rather than not at all.

That was 60's Pacific Jazz material reissued on BN.

Also 60's Pacific Jazz material reissued by BN in the 70's.

BN does have some downloads available.  I own at least one, the Freddie Roach discussed here. Agreed on the Left Bank material!

The Freddie Roach exists as a download only on the Blue Note site?

I got mine from Amazon, $5.99 I believe, thought I don't see a direct link to it out there any more.  But you can get to it through bluenote.com, which I did not realize.

Amazon DLs used to not be the highest available quality. Has that changed?

They sound good to me, but I don't have high-end equipment.

That's a nice collection of odds and ends.  I believe all the cuts ended up being bonus cuts on other HS CD's.

My distaste for Monk Higgins is no secret, or shouldn't be. Not once have I heard anything to suggest that he was too much more than an opportunistic hack.

IMO.

Not even Soul Symphony? I don't like the backing much but Gene is great on that record and in the realm of "Three Sounds" but not really Three Sounds, it has to be the go-to record for GHF.

The backings are the work of Monk Higgins.

Another one is Stanley Turrentine's Flipped Out..

What's the story on that one and that record company (looks like primarily an R&B label, including releasing Swamp Dogg's  'Total Destruction of Your Mind')?  Was that Turrentine just in between BN and CTI, or was it some sort of rejected session.  It looks/sounds like first cousin to his final BN albums, 'The Look of Love' and 'Always Something There'.  While far from essential, it's not terrible.
