catesta Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Severe snow storm warning in effect for tomorrow with significant snowfall predicted. Yeah, this one looks bad. I'm still in Summit County. If I was to take off tomorrow morning I'd be ahead of it. Unfortuntaley, I have unfinished business here and can't leave until Saturday morning at the earliest. Now of course the problem is I may not even be able to even get out of here at that time. How was your drive Wednesday? As I type this the snow's getting worse. Don't know what's really in store for us tonight yet... Drive over was uneventful. Total shit for tonight and tomorrow. Although it looks like where I am at is going to escape the brunt of it. Plans are now to drive back to NY on Sunday morning. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Looks like we're being told to brace ourselves. Forecasters have predicted the fiercest storm of the winter with heavy rain and high speed winds set to tear across the UK. (Advertisement) There are fears of coastal flooding as spring tides coincide with the wild weather. People are being warned to stay inside on Sunday night and avoid unnecessary journeys, with winds of up to 80mph expected. A band of exceptionally low pressure was forecast to bring heavy rain and severe gales across the country, Meteogroup UK said. The unsettled weather is expected to climax on Monday morning and the Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for much of the UK. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/20080308/...er-45dbed5.html MG Quote

BERIGAN Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 We can't compete with what's going on up north, but man....we had 2 very warm days, around 70 Thursday and Friday...now flurries!!! This is not a photo that I took back in January, but a brand new one after a brief snow shower. Oh, and the winds are gusting up to 40 MPH!!!! It has been so very windy this year, the same most everywhere else I assume??? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Nice view, even in the snow. Didn't think Atlanta looked anything like that. MG Quote
BERIGAN Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Nice view, even in the snow. Didn't think Atlanta looked anything like that. MG Being a bit hilly you mean??? Or all the trees??? The home builders have tried, but haven't been able to cut them all down yet....to be fair, this is a fairly new subdivision(built in the early 90's) and they did leave a fair number of trees, which is not always the case. Those evergreens drop needles all year round though. Funny, the hilliness isn't all that noticeable compared to a lot of other cities, of course, but everything's relative. I remember back when I worked for Borders Books, some trainers were brought in from the Miami area to help stock and train a new store in north Atlanta. And those Florida guys and gals, were just amazed by the hills, and fairly tiny Stone Mountain!!! I think except for Gainsville Florida, the rest of the state is as flat as a pancake! Quote

Indeed, Florida is about as flat as you get! When I was growing up there a hill of dirt made by a construction company was the center of attraction as that was the tallest thing around (minus buildings of course!). Quote

Or all the trees??? Both actually - though I should really not be surprised by the number of trees in America; it's one of the great delights. Tom 1960 Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Alot of rain here today. Pouring at times with a brief outburst of thunder and lightning. There's alot of water running down the street. On a positive note, a good amount of snow has melted. I just can't wait till spring! Quote

I think you guys are going to luck out and miss the brunt of the storm. If I knew how to upload pictures, I'd take one of this four foot drift in my back yard, its wild! And its still snowing! We now have around 15 inches! Quote
GA Russell Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 I'm scheduled to change planes in Cincinnati tomorrow. Should I be concerned? Last night I tried to get my flight changed to go through Atlanta, but it would have cost me $300 (!), so I decided to try my luck this morning. When I got to the airport (Seattle) I was told that there was no problem in Cincinnati. But for the time being, the Atlanta airport was closed! We lost a little time in Cincy getting the plane de-iced, but it was all good. Quote

zen archer Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Yesterday we got 3 inches of rain and the WIND was like a Freight train., kept me up all night. The lawn is covered with tree branches and one of the branched slammed into our front door last night. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 80mph winds and heavy rain forecast here for the early hours of the morning. The sky is already looking ominous.. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Yes - sunny most of day but bloody big black clouds rearing up in west just now. Nipping out for a quick cough and drag before the rain starts. MG Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) It's been gorgeous here all day - not a sign of Gotterdammerung. Disappointing: a) Because I had to stay in and work all day - some nasty end of term deadlines. b) I was hoping we'd get a call saying the school was closed tomorrow due to the end of the world, reopening Tuesday. Looks like I'll have to head in whilst a maelstrom sweeps around me. Edited March 9, 2008 by Bev Stapleton Quote
sidewinder Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Maelstrom here nowhere near as bad as expected last night. Worst to come? Quote
