Royal Oak Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 And just like that, the snow is gone, replaced by rain. I can see the garden again, in all it's brown, wet, sloppy mid-Winter glory. Quote
BERIGAN Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) After about 3 weeks or so where it didn't get above 45 degrees, 2 days in a row of mid 50's to 60 made it almost feel like spring in the ATL! It's been so cold, for so long, that a nearby creek/small river was getting some ice on it! Never seen that before. I saw a small man made lake yesterday, and it still had a thin layer of ice in spots. Edited January 16, 2010 by BERIGAN Quote

sidewinder Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Do they put pipes in snowmen these days? Quote

It was the December snowman's hat which was left on the ground when that lot melted, then covered up by January's deluge. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Do they put pipes in snowmen these days? I'd imagine they've gone the same way as these things: Gosh, I can still imagine the taste and texture! Can't have been around since the 60s. Quote

Good grief - I haven't seen that for the best part of 40 years ! Used to collect the cards from those and walk around with those sweet ciggies in my mouth thinking I was cool. How deluded.. And bring back Bazooka Joe ! Edited January 16, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
paul secor Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Getting warmer - 30 already at 9 a.m. Supposed to hit low/mid 40's this afternoon. It'll seem like spring! Quote
Tom 1960 Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Just started snowing a short time ago. Glad I'm off from work tomorrow. Damn, it's coming down hard! Edited January 17, 2010 by Tom 1960 Quote
Tim McG Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 We are having amazingly good weather in SoCal. I'm in my workroom, with all the windows open, and a nice breeze is coming though -- temp 71. When I was down in SoCal to vist family and friends during New Years, the weather was perfect then, too. Clean air, 70s....outstanding! Almost makes me want to move back down there. Then I get on the freeways and it quickly passes. Ugh. Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 A rarity in Atlanta - nice powdery snow. When we have snow, it's usually with a nasty mix of sleet and freezing rain. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 It's halfway through February and the ground is still snow-free! This is very odd (at least judging by the two previous winters I've seen here), but I'm not complaining. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Warmer than we've been used to since December. Signs of things stirring in the garden too! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 (edited) Spring is definitely here in the UK. -7 two weeks ago, +15 at times last week. Crocuses out, bunnies and pheasants everywhere. I even saw a clump of daffodils on the way home on Friday. The best thing is despite the great ice massacre that killed off five frogs, it's been all action in the pond this week. Yesterday it poured with rain after several weeks of dry skies. Here are two frogs taking a rest from their endeavours (unless there are other under the water!!!!!) and enjoying the rain. Edited March 21, 2010 by Bev Stapleton Quote
JohnS Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Nice and spring-like hear too. Love the frogs. The only frog I've seen so far was a victim of a hit and run. Quote
kinuta Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 The Japanese call this kind of weather ' san kan shi on ' literally three (days) cold four warm. That about sums it up. Quote
kinuta Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Bloody awful. Non stop rain, leaden skies and cold like winter. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Dull and overcast. But that could be the volcanic ash the Icelanders are sending us in lieu of the money they owe us! Quote
mjazzg Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Hey Bev, bright and sunny here in London. Does that mean the Icelanders don't owe money south of Watford? Quote

A colleague of mine is supposed to be flying out to New York tomorrow - flight's been cancelled due to the ash. Quote
mjazzg Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 yes, and tonight's tempting gig at the Vortex has been cancelled because Ikue Mori, Jim Black and Briggan Krauss are stuck in Oslo! However presumably Sun Ra's Arkestra will still play across the road at Cafe Oto as the spaceways remain uneffected Quote
