  1. Just ordered... Charlie Parker Project 1993 - Anthony Braxton (Hatology) Stock No. 5326 The Long March - Max Roach / Archie Shepp (Hatology) Stock No. HAT640 The Dark Tree - Horace Tapscott (Hatology) Stock No. HAT630 On Duke's Birthday - Mike Westbrook (Hatology) Stock No. 12561 Flamingos - Max Nagl (Hatology) Stock No. 4849 Never heard Nagl before, but I really liked the samples.
  2. I like Albert Brooks' suggestion to keep the Paterno statue but turn its head so that Joe is forever looking the other way.
  3. I recently went through a similar experience at work when they replaced my aging computer and along with it came a new keyboard. It was like I suddenly forgot how to type. I had some trouble finding one that felt similar to my old keyboard. Not sure what to suggest other than maybe visiting Best Buy or some store that sells numerous brands of keyboards and trying them out in person. I found that multimedia keyboards seem to work better for me, perhaps because they tend to be a bit larger in size.
  4. It's not just the family that doesn't get it... http://onwardstate.com/2012/07/17/_-reasons-to-still-be-proud-penn-staters/ At least some of the comments point out how few reasons to be "proud of" Penn State have to do with academics.
  5. It's rare that an artist of any sort doesn't say that whatever new piece s/he's currently promoting isn't his/her "best." Seriously, when has anyone ever said, "Yeah, this new one's okay, but it's not as good as the one I did twenty years ago when I was in my prime."

    SACD player?

Well they're barely making new SACDs these days; I haven't bought a new one in a couple of years. It's not that the technology isn't great, but it's also kinda dying on the vine as the biz is moving toward digital downloads. And with record sales picking up, I'd recommend someone buying a turntable over an SACD player if they're looking forward to that "audiophile" experience. Don't get me wrong: I think it's a good idea to perhaps buy a new CD player that might also play SACDs for the occasional SACD you might have, but to buy one now primarily for SACDs is, to me, like investing in a new cassette deck. But it's really about the buyer's priorities.

    SACD player?

Unless you already have a stockpile of SACDs, I'm not sure why anyone would buy a new SACD player in 2012 - at least specifically for SACD playback. And I'm saying that as someone who owns two of them.
  8. Yeah, no longer available as it was a 1-day special, but they did send me a buck credit.
  9. I'm not sure that means all that much. It's been reported that most if not all inmates in such situations are routinely placed on suicide watch as a matter of procedure.
  10. Wow...let's call this "drip painting logic." Really, you don't think it odd that someone has a blog about something that they don't like and don't participate in? That's like someone starting an "I Hate Jazz" page that ridicules others for liking jazz. Why bother?
  11. I find the idea of an anti-FB blog ironic and hilarious. And he accuses Facebookers of "wasting time?" At least we're wasting time on something we enjoy instead of wasting our time urging others to conform to their beliefs. The guy must be a Christian Conservative.
  12. Curious that Tennessee's also one of the most "religious" states in the U.S.
  13. It was an EPIC FAIL by all those involved. ALL THOSE INVOLVED! They did a regular Catholic Church move, protect the institution at the expense of kids.
  14. No doubt re: the "death threats." That's way overboard and I do blame the demise of the big bands for that one. People of all ages, I've learned, can be idiots. I understand what you mean about her being a bus monitor who didn't really do any monitoring. I suspect she needed to be there simply for "procedural" reasons - i.e., having an adult other than the driver on board. But really, what could she really have done about the verbal abuse hurled her way? I might've smacked the kids responsible for it - but that only would've land me in jail, and not on a trip to Disneyland.
  15. Yep, I'm sure this sort of stuff, sadly, goes on each and every day. Only by going viral did it really become news. I'm heartened that so many across the country are appalled by the boys' behavior. Frankly, I'm bothered by those who simply shrug it off as "kids being kids."
  16. That's what freaked me out so much about Sandusky's responses in the media (the Costas interview for instance). Instead of outright - and immediately! - denying doing anything wrong, he seemed to talk around it and, without exactly saying so, appeared to consider what he did some form of affection. It reminded me of Michael Jackson's denials of similar charges. I'm no psychiatrist. obviously, but I can't help but wonder if JS truly thinks he's innocent of the crimes he's been charged and now convicted of.
  17. I don't know - Paterno was, what, like 85 when he died? I doubt he knew how to program his VCR. I don't doubt that he finally realized/was told what was going on, but I can believe that he had a hard time processing, comprehending, and even believing it. Look how hard it was for some of us to believe the charges against Bill Barton last year - and most of us didn't know him personally and over several decades' time. It seems clear that there are several in the university's athletics program who tried to cover things up, but some of you make it sound like old man Paterno was actually enabling Sandusky - which I think is going too far.
  18. It's gonna have to be a few weeks for me; I'm kinda in a hole at the moment.
  19. What will be interesting is the "next generation" of artists - those who grew up in the "steal this album" culture. I doubt it will stop anyone who's truly creative, but I'd also bet that we currently have no idea of what the next "business model" for the music business will be in, say, twenty years.
  20. Anything that gets this creep closer to the slammer is OK by me. Yes, but a jury "tainted" by the media isn't going to help get him convicted. I'm not sure what NBC's reasons were, but I'd be curious to hear them too. I'd be shocked if he isn't found guilty. As one commentator said, having ten (or however many) accusers taking the stand is like having a video of the event.
  21. Was just about to post this; glad to find a thread already here. I'm really digging this one... http://www.npr.org/2012/06/10/154159413/first-listen-neneh-cherry-and-the-thing-the-cherry-thing
