Yes, sure!

There's a "corner" here:

And three threads (at least) about the great Select:

Big, big fan here!

To truly grasp his genious, I'd recommend you search for some of his great Verve discs (roughly 1988 or 89 to 2000), like "Volcano Blues" (with Teddy Edwards) and "Saga". Some have guests like Pharoah Sanders, Dizzy Gillespie and Idrees Sulieman, on some he adds Moroccan Gnawa Musicians...

And don't neglect his 70s work either... there's a great live album with Billy Harper on Freedom (it was on CD), as well as plenty of great piano solo releases.

Most recently, he's played with a trio, the release "Zep Tepi" is recommended!

I guess I'm a big fan. I have all the official catalog, and quite a bit of unofficial recordings.

Flurin gives you good recommendations. Don't neglect the material released by OJC. I find I am most charged by his earliest work, and his most recent. Long may he run!

amazing pianist - on my blues set I've included "5 Spot Blues" which has amazing work, as well, from Colemn Hawkins (I got this off one of those old gatefold Bluenote LPs with the brown covers).

Big fan here as well!

"African Cookbook" is essential, and I'd like to single out "Music of Our Ancestors" as a personal favorite. :bwallace:

Count me in as a fan. An amazing talent. I don't think it's going too far to call him a genius.

Randy will be playing a solo concert in tribute to Thelonious Monk a week from Monday, October 12th, at The Somerville theater in Somerville, MA (next door to Cambridge).

I am very honored to have been asked to introduce him that night.

Big time fan here, especially the mid-60's to 70's stuff, but I pretty much own almost all of it.

Saw him play in Manchester in the nineties. He had Billy Harper and veteran trombonist Benny Powell in the band.

I saw in a duo performance with Abdullah Ibrahim - unforgettable, especially as it was in small club-like venue and we had front row seats!

Another big fan here...

One of the most memorable concerts I ever experienced was a duo with David Murray at the Montreal Festival.

Hopefully I can catch him with the African Rhythms Trio when they play Jazz Alley here in Seattle soon.

an aside - Benny Powell was sitting 3 seats to my left tonight at the Bobby Bradford show in NYC

He is playing with the Octet tomorrow night

He is looking sharp and ready to go...

I also saw Randy Weston in the late 90's with Powell among others - great show

Another big Weston fan here, I've only gotten to see him once in a wonderful solo concert. In a similar vein, I quite enjoy Marrakech in the Cool of the Evening.

Many years ago, after college and in need of an adventure, I moved to a strange city where I knew virtually no one and brought very few belongings. I had left most of my albums at my Dad's place. The only jazz album I had with me - accidentally - was a 70s twofer of two early RW albums, "Trio and Solo" and "With These Hands." I unexpectedly found myself playing it nonstop.

Many years later, I was living in Beantown, and went to a performance/lecture RW presented for a class at Harvard. Just him at a piano in a classroom of about 40 students. I got the impression that many of them had no idea who he was. His solo playing was riveting.

Over the years, I've accumulated a decent number of his albums from between the 50s and 70s.

I had one of his more recent albums (i.e. last ten years) on CD, can't remember the title, but found it less interesting than the earlier stuff. It seemed much more straight-ahead and lacked the edge of his earlier stuff. Maybe there are other recent albums by him that are better.

I just purchased a ticket - first row in the balcony. That'll be me whooping it up when you come on stage, Steve. :D

Oh - that's one of the most beautiful solo piano recordings I own - in any style! And the sonics are so natural you can feel and almost smell the room ... I will put this on tomorrow.
