I don't understand the question. Every one of the musicians listed in the poll is already in the Jazz Hall of Fame, as Harbop's second post makes clear. So...

:blink::unsure::blink:

How do these artists get choosen? There are so many others that don't show up on this list.

Jackie McLean

Andrew Hill

Just to name two.

Do we have to have a jazz hall of fame?

Do mean to suggest that great jazz artists are not worthy of the same enshrinement bestowed on sports heroes? :huh:

OK.

Do sports personalities need a hall of fame?

One other question.

Do you have to be dead and American to be in a hall of fame?

Sorry. I'm a history teacher who doesn't like museums!

:blink::unsure::blink:

Same here!

Besides that, I see some names of doubtful jazz value on the list:

Guy Lombardo, Sammy Kaye etc. may have been great artists in their own right, but jazz???

Who votes on who gets into the Jazz Hall of Fame?

I confess I was a little surprised to see Guy Lombardo, Lawrence Welk and Perry Como.

And Martha Tilton? I'd never heard of her, but a little web research shows that she was a 40's big band singer with a fine reputation but whose career never really took off. I mean, more power to her, I'm sure she was great, but Hall of Fame?

Of course they do!

One other question.

No, but it doesn't hurt.

;)

Thank's John.

I'm glad to know being American doesn't hurt.

And even gladder to know that being dead isn't going to hurt!

THE JAZZ HALL OF FAME IS A BAD AND STUPID IDEA. RE: YOUR LIST, ALL OF THE ABOVE QUALIFY. WITH JAZZ MUSIC, TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD MAJOR IMPACTS ON THE GENRE. A TRUE HALL OF FAME WOULD READ LIKE LON ARMSTRONGS LP COLLECTION- AND WHAT WOULD THE POINT BE, IF EVERYONE IS IN IT. ON THE OTHER HAND, IF ONLY A FEW PEOPLE ARE IN IT, IT IS BAD AS WELL AS OTHERS ARE LEFT OUT. SO EITHER WAY ITS A REALLY BAD IDEA. ITS NOT LIKE ROCK WHERE THERES A SELECT NUMBER OF BANDS THAT STAND OUT ABOVE THE REST THAT CAN BE INCLUDED IN A HALL. YOU GUYS BETTER DROP THIS ISSUE SO NO ONE GETS CRAZY IDEAS.
