I bought the Booker Pitman record with the same cover as the book, so that one is smiling at me... "The World's Soprano Sax Nr 1" or something like that, released a few months after Bechet's death ... From what I know, it's a fascinating biography...
The Ellington and James Johnson books look intriguing as well. I thought I saw 2 books on Duke but it was just one.
Edit to correct again: there are 2 Ellington books. The second is Jack Chambers Tone Parallel.
I did make it to Bob Le Flambeur. I had seen a fair number of French noir or neo-noir films, and I had assumed I had seen this, though it was definitely the first time. A few odd plot holes (Bob had known Marc for years and only just found out he was still pimping -- really?), but generally quite interesting.
