  2. His work is astounding on that Tyner-Henderson archival set that came out on Blue Note last year.
  3. Oh yes that one’s magnificent
  4. I just checked my collection where he plays and just a few examples: Alice Coltranes Universal Consciousness Anouar Brahems Blue Maqams Freddie Hubbards First Light Jackie McLeans Demons Dance Joe Hendersons Power to the People Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew Paul Desmond’s Skylark plus many more but his ability to shine one these very different kind of records in such a great way says a lot about his qualities as a drummer

  6. There is some fantastic music on the box but I still prefer it in very small doses. What gets to me is not the fact that it is jams but somewhat the contrary: some of the box is largely the same musicians playing the same blues and standards night after night, not always with enthusiasm and with strong encouragement to bring their solos to crescendos with lots of tooting and honking to get the crowd excited. That can get a bit tiring after a while. But small doses can be quite rewarding as at least one or two of the masters will usually play something special.
  7. Eric Gales, Tribute to LJK/Little Jimmy King
  8. Never heard of this one and wow!! One of only 44 copies produced!?!? That's one rare box set. Are any of the tracks exclusive to this box?
  9. Re-listening to disc 2 of 800×800 62.1 KB 640×640 48.9 KB Followed by Disc VII of “The Complete Pharoah Sanders Theresa Recordings”
  10. Disc 1 of the 4 CD set. Featuring Harold Mabern Cedar Walton & Bruce Barth
  11. Band is not Direct Journey. It's the name of the album. The band is BJQ. https://www.discogs.com/release/25655938-BjQ-Direct-Journey It seems fairly rare and there's only one CD available on discogs.com, so if you want it, I'd order that one ASAP. By the way, BJQ is short for Baroque Jazz Quartet. @arantxa I moved this to the Discography forum.
  12. Beethoven - Piano Sonatas No, 8, 17, 21 - Andor Foldes
  13. I think they played versions. The father of a friend of mine had that album and I'm trying to find it. They had a version wich started with Bach's Prelude.
  14. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****
  15. Secret Sauce by Eric Ghost with Lincoln Goines and James McGilveray. Per the Bandcamp write up, Eric Ghost was the alias of Richard Barth Sanders, who apparently invented the paper blotter delivery mechanism for LSD. So a real pioneer I guess.
  16. My favorite and go to Bird box is the 8cd Complete Savoy and Dial that Savoy issued.
  17. He was the epitome of class and oh so knowledgeable. A loss. RIP.
  18. I too never wonder about anything like that. Moreover, you could say that about anything in your collection, and if your collection is large years could go by before you listen to something again. I have it and it’s one of my favorite Mosaics. I just loved listening to the jams. If that’s not your thing, you might want to take it in small bites. Did you ever listen to the JATP Verve issued of the 49s jams?
  19. Danny Ward & Reality 70s Funky jazz from Seattle
  20. What type of jazz did they play? I'm not familiar with the band name. Do you know when the album was released?
  21. Lots of new managerial hires already. None are marquee names. Interesting!
