  2. There is some great playing in there but when the sax is playing the piano and drums are nearly inaudible. The recording level is probably too high and the sax distorts. There is some sort of clipping or distortion on the cymbals even when the sax is absent. The bass is pretty much nonexistent throughout. It's interesting but not really pleasant listening. Streaming it is fine for me - I can't see buying it because I would rather listen to other, well recorded performances of the same tunes from around the same time.
  3. I have no problem with the sound of the recording. If the recording appears on CD, I will buy it.

  6. Amen to that. Maybe my favorite rock drummer — or certainly in my top-3.
  7. Sadao Watanabe – Morning Island
  8. I read the Parker biography Universal Tonality (by Cisco Bradley) a few years ago and don't recall many (if any) mentions of Parker playing with white "Downtown" artists. But I read it through interlibrary loan, my recollections can't be trusted, and I don't have it on hand to check. Just requested the book again, so by next week I'll be able to research that issue.
  9. That was the way to do it
  10. There is a full version now:
  11. Still, I liked his language. For ex. the Paul Tingen "Miles Beyond" is much more academic, Freeman was good at converting feelings into descriptions really matching the music. But obviously all of this needs to be filtered with with something... more "fact-oriented".
  12. I didn't get around to watching The Wire and The Sopranos until ten years or so after each show had ended its run. Loved them both and just recently began re-watching The Wire. Mad Men I did see while it was airing, and I'll be re-watching that one at some point as well. My best friend has been pressing me to watch Breaking Bad for a long time, and I've checked out some clips on YouTube, but it hasn't pulled me in yet. I'll likely watch it at some point, though, as it's so often grouped with the three shows I just mentioned as the Fantastic Four of cable TV's "golden age" period in the 2000s.
  13. Next year the league will expand the playoffs to everybody but one. I remember the WHA did that in 1979, its last year. https://www.cfl.ca/2026/04/28/coming-in-27-a-cfl-season-built-for-summer-long-weekends-cfl-and-cflpa-champion-a-new-era-of-playoff-football/ https://www.cfl.ca/new-regular-season-revamped-playoff-format-faq/ https://3downnation.com/2026/04/28/cfl-expands-grey-cup-playoffs-to-eight-teams-in-2027/ https://cflnewshub.com/cfl-news/coming-in-27-a-cfl-season-built-for-summer-long-weekends-cfl-and-cflpa-champion-a-new-era-of-playoff-football/ ***** Canadians celebrate the beginning of summer the week before Memorial Day, called Victoria Day. 16. Hey we're all different. I for example am much more into Breaking Bad than Sopranos, and I prefer Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad. Gilligan did a lot of interesting X-Files episodes, as well as the interesting show that just concluded its first season last year, Pluribus--he's an accomplished television creator.
  17. All my life I read about how special Black Mask Magazine was, but the writing here just isn't very good. Maybe these were included to add a mood of "Oriental danger" to the magazine.
  18. Couple of the many recent Futura/Marge reissues:
