What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
BFrank replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Richard Barbieri/Steve Jansen - Very atmospheric, but with more energy than it seems after multiple listenings. This live album also includes Mick Karn on bass, and Steven Wilson on guitar -
Very sad, for sure. And one of my favorites. He performed in so many different settings and formats, he was hard to categorize. Which made him that much more special.

I enjoy all the Angles stuff, but this one is my favorite. I mean, the point of having a roof is so someone can blow it off, right?

Gheorghe, Sorry to hear that about your wife, I know how much you loved her. My first wife died when we were both 52, after a two plus year long battle with cancer, and that too was too young. I was lucky to find love again--love is the one thing I've been lucky in when my thirties finally came around. My nightmare is sort of over. . .except now there is about four or five weeks of my wife's recuperating where I will be the nurse. I'm up for it.

Would it not make sense for all these national “societies” to pool their resources under one roof - an international Ellington society?

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Believe me, I know what that means. I had enough personal nightmares this year. At least it made me productive and one of the 7 originals that will be on my next album is titled "Theme from a Nightmare". Believe me. I know those nightmares. The worst of them all was that my wife died so young just a month ago, 47 years old, heart attack, no chance to survive. At least she didn´t suffer. And this was just a heavy blow, but only one of many in this year, sad to say. Hope you better now, sincerly I hope that for you ! -

Oh, what a loss. He was great !

When Larry Kart talked about Getz' "mooing", that's what I always imagined he meant. And the longer I listened to Sweet Rain, the more of it I heard. Captain Marvel. not so much Higher stakes in that one, imo

Yes, but knowing such things somewhat spoils it for me. Some part of this egomaniac behaviour always remains in the music.

Mingus/Richmond...one of those that is a given!

I endlessly make playlists on my computer, and of course there are many featuring the great drummers in our history. I have also created some playlists that showcase how a particular drummer connects with another player, which could be a sax player, pianist, guitarist. In some cases, I don't need to document it separately--there is simply such a large amount of Coltrane with Elvin and Miles with Tony Williams. Spotlights so far: John Abercrombie with Jack DeJohnette Sonny Rollins with Max Roach Monk with Art Blakey Chick Corea with Roy Haynes I should do some more.
